In the film āThere is no way outā, the actors play a funny spy plot in which there is an explosive cocktail: love, surveillance, insidious murders and, of course, the double play of the Soviet KGB agent. How did this plot tangle unravel and who turned out to be a mysterious āmoleā in the US Department of Defense?
āThere is no way outā: actors, roles, short story
The confrontation between the two intelligence departments - the CIA and the KGB - is a favorite topic of many American films, which include the thriller No Exit.
The actors in the project were not the most famous, but the name Kevin Costner on the poster was enough to attract people to theaters and raise $ 35 million at a cost of $ 15 million.
The storyline āThere is no way outā begins quite innocently: a naval officer (K. Costner) named Tom Farrell meets at a formal reception with a beautiful girl (S. Young) and starts an affair with her. Then the officers are transferred to the Ministry of Defense. And then Farrell's girlfriend is suddenly killed by her second lover - the immediate superior of the protagonist. This boss (Minister Bryce) hooks up the special services and tries to accuse the fictitious KGB agent of the crime. In fact, he hands Tom a photograph showing his rival (that is, Tom himself) and asks for the identity of the alleged killer.
Nobody knows that the fictional KGB spy whom Bryce invented to hide the murder really exists. And he will eventually circle everyone around his finger.
Kevin Costner and his character Tom Farrell
Kevin Costner in the 1990s was a prominent star in Hollywood. So we can say that āThere is no way outā - this is his āsoloā, since there are no more invited celebrities in the project.
The 1990s for the actor began very successfully: Kevin Costner received two Oscars at once for his directorial debut, Dancing with the Wolves, where he assigned himself the main role. Then there were a number of rather iconic films, but the audience most of all loved the drama āThe Bodyguardā, filmed in 1992. In this movie hit, Costner appeared in tandem with singer Whitney Houston. And although the picture was crushed by critics, it became a cult.
In the action movie No Exit, Costnerās hero finds himself in a very difficult situation: Tomās boss orders him to find the lover of his murdered girlfriend, but Farrell is this lover. Moreover, Bryce concocts a story with a Soviet agent to cover up his atrocities. But in the finale, we see that the Secretary of Defense was miraculously right in some way: Farrell appears to be the same āYuriā who for many years successfully worked as a āmoleā in the US military units.
S. Young as Susan
Actress Sean Young in the film plays a certain Susan Atwell. In fact, it is not completely clear what the girl is actually doing, only one thing is known: she is a constant girlfriend of the Minister of Defense David Bryce. But at the same time, Susan does not deny herself little "pleasures" and begins an affair with Tom Farrell.
For a girl, it all ends sadly. Bryce finds out about the betrayal and in a rage kills her. Then a certain Pritchard helps him to hide the traces of the crime, which Bryce then substitutes and leads to suicide.
Actress S. Young, who played the role of Atwell, has appeared in secondary roles in many hits of the 90s. In āBlade Runnerā with Harrison Ford, she played Rachel, in āDuneā by David Lynch - Chaney's concubine, in āDeadly Instinctā - Lola Kay, and also appeared in the famous comedy āAce Ventura: Pet Searchā.
Recently, Sean starred a little. In 2005, she was invited to the role of Isadora Duncan in the Russian TV series Yesenin with Sergei Bezrukov.
J. Hackman as Bryce
Gene Hackman, who played the role of treacherous minister Bryce, was born in California. His path to the "big" movie was pretty winding. At 16, the young man went to serve in the Marine Corps.
Then he was demobilized due to an accident and was offered to live on retirement. According to the law, Hackman could choose a university, and the state would pay for his studies, but the acting profession was not included in the list of specialties. Combining several part-time jobs, Gene nevertheless paid for his courses. Hackman studied with Dustin Hoffman. Both actors subsequently received an Oscar for their achievements in cinema.
In fact, Hackman is the owner of two Oscars at once: for the role of Jimmy Doyle in the āFrench Connectionā by William Fridkin and for the role of āLittle Billā in the āUnforgivenā western of Clint Eastwood. The last work of the artist in the cinema was the comedy project "Welcome to Elk's Bay."
Other role performers
But this is far from a complete list of performers who starred in the thriller No Exit. Actors Costner and Will Patton played friends and colleagues in this film. However, the character of Patton - Scott Pritchard - is not very lucky: in the finale of the picture, he dies.
Actor Will Patton can be seen in the films āGone in 60 Secondsā and āArmageddonā. In the episodic role of a policeman, a novice movie star Brad Pitt appeared on the screens.
