Perhaps one of the most famous paintings by Quentin Tarantino is the Pulp Fiction tape, which in 1994 won the main award of the Cannes Film Festival. It was then that the young cinematographer acquired an army of fans, many of whom had not heard anything about their idol before.
The audience began to take an active interest in the filmography of Tarantino and paid special attention to his debut work, which was released a couple of years earlier, the film "Reservoir Dogs". The actors of this criminal thriller subsequently gained great popularity and more than once took part in other films of the director.
About the plot
At the beginning of this story, eight men are resting in a small cafe, talking about business. We are talking about Mr. White, Blue, Pink, Blonde, Brown, Orange, the big boss Joe Cabbot and the nice guy Eddie Cabbot.
Men are planning a big and risky robbery, having agreed that the survivors will then gather in an abandoned warehouse. So, the characters begin the operation, but it goes extremely unsuccessfully - it becomes clear that a traitor has wound up in the company. The bandits are forced to suspect each other, but they want to achieve the truth. This is the plot of the movie "Reservoir Dogs", whose actors brilliantly coped with the roles assigned to them.
The origin of the project
Tarantino wrote the script for the thriller, being an employee of the usual American video distribution. The guy did not expect to get a substantial budget for his picture, believing that he would have to remove it on an inexpensive 16 mm black and white film. He also decided in advance on the people who will play in the project "Mad Dogs". The actors, by the way, were not at all known to the general public: Quentin's relatives and friends.
A promising filmmaker managed to find a novice producer who was supposed to help him with organizational issues. They became Lawrence Bender. Further development of events depended on the will of chance. The producer talked with his teacher, mentioning that he met a guy who wrote a brilliant script. Lawrence noted that the main role will be played by the company, far from the world of cinema. When the teacher asked whom the new partners would like to see at the head of the cast, Bender admitted that they would be happy if the central image was assigned to such an actor as Harvey Keitel.
Beginning of work
Incredibly, Lawrence’s interlocutor said that his wife was familiar with Harvey, and if she was interested in the Tarantino script, she would invite the celebrity to get acquainted with him. Within a few days, the partners received a call from a famous actor who said that he had read the script and would like to discuss it.
It turned out that Harvey Keitel was delighted with the work of Tarantino - he was ready not only to take on one of the leading roles, but also to act as a producer of the project "Mad Dogs". The actors who played the main roles in the film were introduced to him also thanks to the idol and new friend Quentin and Lawrence. Rumors of a potential hit spread pretty quickly, and he received a budget of $ 1.2 million. By the standards of Hollywood, this is very little, but still much more than the aspiring screenwriter and director could have imagined.

Soon, the long-awaited shooting of the picture "Reservoir Dogs" began. The actors were selected very colorful - Tim Roth, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Tierney, Edward Bunker, Chris Penn and others. It is noteworthy that David Dukhovny also tried on one of the roles, who two years later began to play the main installment in the series The X-Files.
Tarantino himself acted not only as a director and scriptwriter, but also as the performer of the role of Mr. Brown in the film "Reservoir Dogs". Michael Madsen, in turn, portrayed a tough guy, nicknamed Mr. Blondin. The already mentioned Keitel appeared in the image of Mr. White. The whole team was dressed in black suits and white shirts.
Premiere
It took less than six months to produce the cult thriller, but as a result, film critics praised the movie “Reservoir Dogs” rather highly. The year 1992 was marked by a great triumph for the director who was gaining momentum, because his debut was seen, and he instantly gained star status. Especially the audience noted an unusual style of storytelling, which previously was not very popular among Tarantino's colleagues.
In the future, he took off a lot of masterpieces, but this long journey began with "Mad Dogs"!
