In 2014, the premiere of the series "Kuprin." “In the Dark”, the actors and roles of which are presented in this article, is one part of the trilogy. The other two are “Pit”, “Duel”. The events shown in the serial film are somewhat different from the contents of the works of Alexander Kuprin. And the main difference is the presence of the author himself in the plot.
Trilogy
The peculiarity of the series is that it is shot in three parts. Each part has its own director and in each of them the fates of the heroes of the writer's works are intertwined. The main character is Kuprin himself.
Of course, as in any film adaptation, the plot of the film has discrepancies with the original works of the Russian prose writer. However, the intensity of passions, drama and some piquancy of plots inherent in Kuprin, is fully preserved.
"Pit"
The first part is an adaptation of five works by Kuprin. “In the Dark”, the actors of which are presented below, is a continuation of the film. But the characters in the sequel are completely different. Only the main character remains - Kuprin. And this hero also acts as a narrator.
“Pit” is a rather frank adaptation of the work dedicated to the inhabitants of the brothel. But the main theme of the film is not the venality of women, but the meanness of men. The girls were delivered to the brothel by Mr. Horizon. He deceives young and naive people, and after they find themselves in a brothel, their further fate is a foregone conclusion: moral decline, illness, death.
The plot of the first part is known to those who read Kuprin's novel. In "Pit" directed by Vladislav Furman there are almost no discrepancies with the book. But in addition to the events taking place in the “house of tolerance”, the picture contains heroes from the novels “Pomegranate Bracelet”, “Telegraphist”, “Holy Love”, “Without a Title”. The first part was played by Svetlana Khodchenkova, Natalia Agureeva, Anatoly Bely, Irina Leonova and others. The role of Kuprin was played by Mikhail Porechenkov.
The first part, according to reviews, is the best adaptation of Kuprin. The director conveyed to the audience the author’s thought: human meanness, cruelty and evil are ineradicable, and life is unfair. The nature of man is two-faced, and sometimes behind a beautiful facade hides betrayal, meanness and lies. But it happens that behind the mask of a fallen woman is a thin and vulnerable soul that can withstand all the trials for the long-awaited happiness.
The wonderful game and the emotions of the main characters are conveyed so naturally that the viewer is completely immersed in their problems. This series will not leave anyone indifferent. Perhaps this story about the tragedy of human destinies will force the viewer to re-read the works created by Alexander Kuprin.
In the Dark

The scriptwriter added events and heroes from "Lucia" to this tragic story. With a light hand of filmmakers in the famous story Kuprin appeared Zenida - a circus artist, also in love with Alarina.
"Duel"
The third part of the series is based on five works by Kuprin. Including the novel “The Duel”. Actors who played in the film: Nikita Efremov, Alexander Makogon, Ekaterina Klimova, Andrey Zibrov and others. The main character is Romashov, in love with a married woman. There is a scandal, and then a challenge to a duel. But if Romashova dissuades one of the heroes of the "Duel" from the book, then in the series Kuprin does it. However, he does not succeed. Romashov dies in a duel.
