In 1995, three young people formed the music group Bricks. Among them were Vasya Vasin, Kirill Soloviev and Stas Sytnik. This team has changed several times over the year, and in the end the team still formed completely. Of the creators, only Vasya remained. Among the newcomers were Danila, also known as MASTA, responsible for the bass, and Zhenya, the drummer. It was the entire composition of the group "Bricks".
Successful start
The beginning of a professional and, one might say, successful career of young people was laid a year after the formation of their team. It was then that the well-known company "SHOK-Records" became interested in the guys and signed a contract with them.
The Bricks group met the expectations of the record company by instantly releasing the album. In addition, the video for the song “The Tale” was shot by them as a bonus. Immediately, the team began to gain popularity and gained fame mainly in youth circles.
A little later, the guys took part in the St. Petersburg festival “New Wave”, for their performance they were awarded the title “Discovery of the Year” and the honorary “Cactus”, which is considered the highest award of this festival for the best debut.
Like the festival, the term "Discovery of the Year" was associated with the group the music magazine "Rock-Fuzz", which is a fairly authoritative publication. All this happened in 1996.
Festivals and Concerts
In the fall of 1996, the Bricks group, together with the well-known Nautilus Pompilius team, got to a concert organized in connection with the anniversary of the broadcasting of Europa Plus radio. It took place in the city of Vyborg. October of that year brought fans a new album, titled "Bricks Are Heavy." His presentation was organized by “SHOC-Records” in the St. Petersburg club “Polygon”. Other young groups such as Tequilajazzz, Streets and others also participated. In honor of this event, the director Elizaveta Shalncheva made the film “Losers,” which was awarded a gold medal on March 29, 1997 at the Fifteenth Student Film Festival. D. Vertova.
The album "Bricks are heavy" gained great fame, attracted the attention of many eminent people from the world of music, made these young children even more popular.
Also, the "Bricks" group managed to perform at various festivals and concerts. Many of them were iconic in the career of musicians. Among them were the festival “Fill the sky with kindness”, which was held in St. Petersburg at the Petrovsky Stadium, and the concert “Learn to Swim 2”, held in the capital. Later, the team participated in the Generation-96 festival.
In 1997, the group, together with DJ Kefir, recorded a solo concert.
In the same year, musicians were invited to the next festival "Learn to swim." They presented on it their new song "Tortured Reptiles." Subsequently, she entered the collection of alternative rock "Learn to swim 3". In the summer, Bricks participated in a concert organized by the DDT Theater and broadcast on television. The team performed their composition “Vodka - badly” here. A month later, the guys went on a short tour, more precisely, visited St. Petersburg, Tver, Novgorod, Pskov and returned to the capital. Tequilajazzz, "Streets", participated in this tour together with them.
Rock and rap
The beginning of a new era in the history of the group is considered the end of 1998. Then the team members Jay, Vasya and Danila began to get involved in rap seriously. However, the guys did not give up musical instruments, they still continued to play rock, but now they alternated it with rap.
In 1999, the Gala Records Recording Studio recorded their next album, called Death at the Rave. This collection includes already known compositions “I Spit” and “Tortured Reptiles”.
Our Ghetto
In 1999, the musicians organized a radio program called “Our Ghetto”. The program was broadcast every Monday in St. Petersburg via the local Radio Record channel. The program was dedicated to rap, but from time to time the guys surprised their listeners with a heavy guitar playing. Initially, all team members were engaged in recording transmissions, but over time, they began to move away from this lesson. First, Vasya abandoned this business, and a little later Jay. As a result, Danila alone continued to pull Our Ghetto.
Having existed for a bit, the program was completely closed - the “Bricks” group, the discography of which by that time was already quite large, began to actively engage in touring.
Jay's death
On February 18, 2000, one of the musicians (Jay) died suddenly. After his death, the guys released a new album. “Bricks” (the group then remained with only two members in the composition) named this collection “Capitalism 00”. And on March 30 of the same year, a concert was held in the Spartak club dedicated to the memory of Jay (Yevgeny Nazarov). Many friends of the deceased musician participated in that concert.
Drummer Jay was replaced by Vadim Latyshev, also known as the Nose. Previously, this guy played in groups such as "Cinema" and "Sh.A.G.I."
Subsequent creative activity
The release of the album "Capitalism 00" entailed additional fame. One of the record companies invited the group to make a video for the song "Danila Blues." When this clip came out, it became a hit. He was constantly played on all the music channels of the country, and the song on radio stations. After that, the group "Bricks", the songs of which became hits, continued active creative activity.
Numerous concerts began again in different clubs, in stadiums. The group resumed the tour, began to travel to many cities of the country, to participate in various festivals.
So, it would seem, two completely incompatible music trends (rock and rap) were able to unite in one team. Even more amazing is the army of fans of this group, which also consists of fans of both one genre of music and the other.
