Dubrovin Eugene: biography and creativity

One of the undeservedly forgotten Soviet writers is Evgeny Panteleevich Dubrovin. Today, interest in his work is reviving. Which Dubrovin books are the most popular? What is known about the life and career of the writer?

In one of the villages of the Voronezh region, in an ordinary working-class family, on August 20, 1936, the future writer Evgeny Dubrovin was born. The biography of the creator of one of the most soulful works of Russian literature, “Waiting for the Goat,” is little known to the reader. On the cover of the book, which was recently reissued, there are only a few mean words about the author.

Dubrovin Eugene graduated from the Agricultural Institute. He began his career at one of the Voronezh plants. He wrote essays and notes for local newspapers. Then he began to write small works of art. In the early seventies, Evgeny Dubrovin left for Moscow, where he worked for several years in the famous humorous magazine Crocodile. The writer passed away in 1986.

What else is known about a writer named Evgeny Dubrovin? The photo is presented in the article. This is one of the few surviving images. Colleagues from the Crocodile editorial office claimed that this man had an extraordinary sense of humor, but very rarely smiled. Memoirs of the writer’s friends speak much more about him than brief biographical notes.

"Waiting for a goat"

In the autobiographical book, Ruslan Kireev devoted several pages to the writer. Who was Evgeny Dubrovin? First of all, one of those who was born in the most difficult time for the country. The memories of early years formed the basis of some works.

One day, Eugene’s parents went to the city to buy a goat, leaving him and his little brother at home. About how the boys lived without them, many years later Dubrovin wrote in the funny and at the same time tragic novel “Waiting for a Goat”. This work was published in 1968, in Voronezh. Moscow writers became aware of it later, when its author took the post of chief editor of the famous magazine.

"Crocodile"

The editorial work of Dubrovin is also known thanks to the memoirs of his contemporaries. Manuil Semenov, who headed the satirical magazine, once heard about a young and promising Voronezh writer. How he learned about Dubrovin is unknown. But, according to the colleagues of the writer, Semenov decided to offer the novice author to take the post of editor. The chief of the All-Union Journal, being at that very old age, did not call the little-known writer to Moscow. He went to Voronezh.

A little prose writer

The amazing quality of Dubrovin was a dislike for unnecessary conversations. In one of the works, the writer and colleague of the hero of this article created the image of a boss who spent most of his time eating a pear and uttered no more than two words a day. The prototype of this character was Evgeny Dubrovin. Despite the fact that the book had a cartoon image, the writer was not offended. On the contrary, he turned to the author of the book with a request to edit his own compositions. Books of Dubrovin:

Oblivion

Dubrovin’s books are not included in the school curriculum. Although in recent years some of them have been recommended for extracurricular reading. Based on his works, two films were created. Nevertheless, in the nineties and the beginning of the two thousandth Dubrovin’s work was completely oblivious. But, as already mentioned, interest in his books is reviving. And, probably, soon publications on the shelves of bookstores with the works of a remarkable Soviet writer will finally appear.
