Expectorants for children

No matter how hard we try, it is not always possible to protect a child from colds. Very often, after a normal winter walk, the baby begins to cough. Therefore, at such moments it is important to have expectorants for children on hand . Of course, first you need to visit a doctor, he will prescribe all the necessary medicines. Do not self-medicate, especially if we are talking about a small child.

Expectorants for children are different: synthetic and natural. Consider the most common of them.

Firstly, this, of course, breast fees, they relate to natural remedies. There are three types.

There are synthetic expectorant drugs for children. Among them, the following are most often prescribed:

1) The drug "ACC". This drug directly affects sputum, which causes its liquefaction and, as a result, the cough stops. It should be noted that this tool dilutes sputum of any origin, whether mucous or purulent. Dose the drug based on the age of the child. So, children from 2 to 5 years old are given the drug three times in 100 mg. From the age of 6 to 14 years old, children are given 200 mg of the drug 2 times a day. The duration of treatment is determined by the attending physician.

2) The drug "Ambroxol". Available in tablet form with a dosage of 30 mg of active substance. In addition, the drug can be found in the form of a syrup and a solution for inhalation. Assign 7.5 mg for children under 5 years of age, 15 mg for older children (from 5 to 12 years), then 30 mg. At any age, give the drug three times.

Expectorants for children should be washed down with plenty of any liquid. Thus, the effect occurs faster, especially to dilute sputum fluid is needed.

As for inhalation, for children under 5 years of age use 2 ml of the drug "Ambroxol" according to the attached instructions up to 2 times a day. Children over 5 years of age - 3 ml also a couple of times a day.

There is another detailed preparation - "Lazolvan". It is also available in the form of syrup, tablets and a solution for inhalation. Children are most often prescribed baby syrup, a teaspoon of 3 doses per day. The course of treatment is set by the pediatrician.

3) The drug "Bromhexine". This drug is probably familiar to many, since it has been used since Soviet times. It is produced either in the form of syrup, or in the form of tablets. Promotes sputum discharge.

Children under 2 years of age are prescribed 2 mg tablets, 3 doses per day, children from 2 to 6 years old - 4 mg each, children from 6 to 10 years old - 6-8 mg of the drug, and adolescents over 10 years old - 8 mg, the same ratio - 3 doses per day. Syrup is prescribed for 2-3 teaspoons based on the age of the child.

Many parents believe that expectorants for children of natural origin are much more effective and safer than synthetic ones. But this is not always the case. The herbal components of natural preparations can cause allergies in young children, which will add to the problems. Therefore, pediatricians do not recommend self-medication, it is safest to seek help at the nearest medical clinic.

Thus, an expectorant for children should be selected by a pediatrician taking into account the characteristics of the baby's body. Therefore, take care of yourself and your children, because the most important thing is that they are healthy and happy! Be healthy!
