Differences between Dog and Cat Fleas
There are almost no differences, and if we take into account the influence of the city on our pets, the small difference that still exists is leveled out. Feline parasites are unable to survive on humans, and therefore practically do not switch to it. Another thing, fleas in dogs are transmitted to humans and can exist on it for some time. However, even on the four-legged, these insects do not live permanently. Eating - yes, breeding - yes, but parasites do not need "permanent residence". They laid eggs, infected the room - and travel further. But the danger is not that fleas in dogs are transmitted to humans, they still carry various diseases - this is why the “dog” variety is dangerous.
Dangerous diseases transmitted through fleas
These parasites carry many diseases that are fraught with consequences for animals - insects feed on blood through which it is easiest to introduce an infection. But we will focus only on those that harm the owners. If there are fleas in dogs, helminths are transmitted primarily to humans. It is unnecessary to describe the harm caused by them, even preschoolers know about these parasites, whom mothers carefully teach to wash their hands before eating.
But there is an even more terrible danger posed by fleas in dogs: rabies viruses are transmitted to humans . It is traditionally believed that this deadly disease passes from the animal only with the last bite, through saliva and blood. But after all, fleas feed on just blood, and if they fed on a sick dog before your pet, they can transfer rabies viruses from it to your pet or you. Of course, the probability of infection from a flea is much lower than when meeting a rabid animal, but you do not need to exclude it.
Signs of fleas
First of all, this is a constant combing, especially if it is accompanied by gnawing between the fur. Anxiety, nervous behavior, irritability - this is the result of constant itching from flea bites. Traces of them can be easily found most often on the withers, in the groin and on the inside of the hind legs, around the tail. With good vision, sorting through dog hair, you can notice traces of parasite bowel movements. All these signs say one thing: you need to treat dogs from fleas.
Preparation for treatment
First of all, you will need to change the litter of the animal or disinfect it thoroughly (boiling is usually enough). Anti-flea drugs the entire room is processed, special attention is paid to carpets and upholstered furniture - most likely, the entire space is infected. If the dog already has an allergy to flea bites, a veterinarian will be required to not aggravate the reaction, and only after this treatment begins.
Flea Remedies
Before you buy a flea medicine for dogs, you need to evaluate the age of the animal, its degree of infection with insects, habits and health, the presence or absence of an existing treatment for other diseases. You should be especially careful when treating a pregnant or lactating female.
Then the method of administering the drug is selected: drops, spray, injections, shampoos. After removing parasites for a walk, put on a dog an anti-flea collar - this will reduce the risk of re-getting fleas.
