Fungal diseases: mycosis of the skin

Fungal skin diseases are a widespread group of diseases, among which skin mycosis meets most often. The disease affects the skin, mucous membranes, nails and hairline. According to various studies, about 20% of the world's population suffers from it. Most often, human infection occurs in pools, saunas, baths, that is, in public places where humidity is elevated. The disease affects the upper layer of the epidermis and with the development of the infection provokes the appearance of erythema (areas of abnormal redness of the skin in the form of spots), pronounced peeling of the skin and its coarsening at the lesion sites.

Among the most significant risk factors for the development of skin mycosis are immunodeficiency states, diabetes mellitus, flat feet, circulatory disorders in the lower extremities. Everyday factors are sports (with increased sweating), skin injuries, wearing special shoes and clothes, for example, overalls, military uniforms, heavy closed boots, boots.

The causative agents of fungal infections are extremely survivable. Dermatophytes, which cause various fungal skin lesions, can survive in the environment for more than two years. Possession of specific enzymes helps to overcome the protective barriers of the body by fungi. The optimum temperature for their development is an indicator of 25-30 C, within which there are temperature fluctuations of the feet and scalp of a healthy person. A humid environment is also a prerequisite, which is why infection and exacerbations often occur in the summer, when sweating intensifies.

A widespread fungal skin disease is mycosis of smooth skin (or a differently colored lichen), which can affect a person at any age. Places of its localization are open areas of the body: face, neck, palms. The characteristic rash in this case looks like round or oval red spots with small, crusty vesicles at the edges. Untimely treatment leads to an increase in the rash along the edges of the spots and the occurrence of itching.

The spread of mycosis depends on how much the human body can resist the disease. In people with weakened immune systems, mycosis of the skin spreads much faster and affects significantly larger areas of the skin than in more healthy ones, that is, with ordinary immunity. Patients suffering from these diseases must undergo a course of treatment, as they are a source of infection in their own families (and not only), which means they are dangerous for others.

Mycosis of the skin of the face is a type of mycosis of smooth skin that differs from it in some features, namely the fact that this fungus is able to simulate various types of dermatoses localized on the face: seborrheic dermatitis, rosacea, lupus erythematosus.

Mycosis of the skin is characterized by a tendency to a chronic course and has a certain resistance even to the latest treatment methods. The severity and nature of the disease depends on the variety of the fungus and the location on the body. Face skin mycosis treatment Only a mycologist can advise. Only a specialist, on the basis of the tests and individually, can prescribe antifungal and antimicrobial agents and drugs. Treatment can be external (local) when the medicine is applied to the affected area and systemic when the medicine is prescribed inside. In the initial stage of the disease, when there are small areas of skin lesion, treatment can consist only of external antifungal drugs. With a deeply entered mycotic process, when patients experience damage to the hair and nails, it is much more difficult to cope with the task.

Mycosis of the skin is a serious disease, and you should not try to fight it yourself. Self-medication is able to give only a short-term result, and more often - leads to complications and the progression of the disease. All medicines should be used only under the supervision of a doctor and according to his prescription, since only he is able to take into account the characteristics of each particular case.
