Artists are amazing people who can create whole worlds on paper. But before you become a recognized master, you need to learn a lot. At school, the first thing they learn is the alphabet. In painting, it all starts with the image of simple geometric shapes: a cube, cone, pyramid, etc. Today we’ll talk about how to draw a ball.
Flat circle without compass
For work you will need: a simple pencil, a sheet of paper, an eraser. Great if you have a ball model. For this purpose, you can take the ball, round orange or other object. Putting it under the lamp, you will clearly see the game of chiaroscuro.
How to draw a ball with a pencil? Follow our instructions:
- Put a point that will become the center of the ball. We draw the vertical and horizontal lines passing through this point. They should match the estimated radius of the sphere. Then we denote two diagonal features of the same length, intersecting at a central point.
- On this base we draw a square whose corners coincide with diagonal lines.
- In the resulting figure, we enter a rhombus. Its peaks are located on horizontal and vertical lines.
- The dotted line marks the ball. At the intersections with the square and the rhombus, it will fit snugly to them, it remains to connect these points with smooth rounded lines. When the resulting form suits you, auxiliary features can be erased.
Hatching
How to draw a volumetric ball? To do this, carefully examine the previously taken ball or orange. Direct light on them so that it falls from above and slightly from the side. You will see that half of the ball is lit and the other is darkened. Behind the figure, a shadow falls on the table. Line out the transition of the illuminated part of the ball into the unlit one. This is the darkest place.
Below it is a reflex - part of a sphere that reflects light from a table, neighboring objects. Draw a rounded line and separate this small area. Designate the falling shadow, apply hatching without touching the reflex at this stage.
It's time to designate the lightest highlight on the ball. We hatch the space around him, barely clicking on a pencil. In a light tone, gloss over the reflex. When hatching, remember the shape of the figure. As a result, we get several gradations of light. The transitions between them must be softly shaded. The drawing is ready.
Christmas ball
If you want to work with paints, a drawn circle can be turned into a Christmas decoration. How to draw a ball on a Christmas tree? Start with the image of the mount as a low cylinder on the side or top of the circle. Mark the teeth on the clip to give it credibility. With a pencil, draw patterns on the toy.
On the palette, select the main tone, apply it without going beyond the edges. Glare on the ball can be obtained using a damp brush or adding white paint. Around them we put a shade lighter. The darkened side is shaded with black or purple. Make the transitions between colors smooth, blurry. Draw Christmas patterns with gouache. It remains to paint the cap with a loop, a contrasting background and the shadow cast by the toy.
Hot air balloon
The ability to draw a sphere is necessary for an artist to depict more complex subjects. After all, all the objects surrounding us are composed of simple geometric shapes. We will verify this by drawing a balloon for flights according to the instructions below:
- Draw the ball in stages, using a square and a rhombus to support it. Erase the excess lines, leaving a vertical line through the center. Extend it down.
- Draw a small volumetric cube to the line, which will later turn into a basket.
- More precisely, outline the outline of a balloon that tapers at its base and resembles an inverted bulb. To do this, draw lines from the sides of the circle down, draw lines from them to the basket. Immediately beneath the ball, hang a cylindrical heating pad on the central rope.
- With ovals, outline the bottom of the dome and the transverse ropes surrounding it.
- Smooth lines indicate the longitudinal ropes in a balloon.
Add details
How to draw a balloon that will look believable? We take care of the details. On the dome, draw segments along the center lines, like an orange. You can add stripes, patterns. We designate the basket in more detail, we attach pens to it. We put it inside people. Erase the extra lines. When painting a balloon, do not forget about glare on each side of the dome. Then it will look voluminous.
It's the turn of the landscape. Draw a blue sky with white clouds. Below - green forests, fields, lakes. To give the picture a dynamic, depict flying birds, moving people on earth. A beautiful picture may well become an interior decoration.
