Georgy Leonardovich Vasiliev was born in 1957 in the Ukrainian city of Zaporozhye. The future bard graduated from two classes of music school. After George Vasiliev, whose songs will later become known to lovers of copyrighted works, he continued to study music on his own, having mastered the guitar.

He entered Moscow State University, where he studied at the Faculty of Economics and Geography in a personal program. Later, George defended his thesis on economics. After graduating from university, he was an employee of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, later - the Central Research and Design Institute (TsNIIIP) of urban planning. After 1991, it was he who owned the initiative to change the administrative division of the capital - from districts to districts.
Author song
Georgy Vasiliev is a tenor who, as a student, met his permanent co-author Alexei Ivashchenko. The musician recalls that they first met in a musical theater, then played together in the music studio of the stage theater of Moscow State University. Together they prepared about 10 musical performances. In 1981, co-authors wrote the musical The Witness about the tragic figure of Giordano Bruno. And the first song George Vasiliev wrote back in 16 years. Later, together with Alexei Ivashchenko, our hero created a creative duet. They jointly prepared and performed many songs. Georgy Vasiliev is an opera singer who, at the turn of the 1990-2000s, took part in the bard music project "Songs of Our Century". Many representatives of the authorâs song worked on it.
The musical "Nord-Ost"
Together with Alexei Ivashchenko, Georgy Vasiliev created the musical âNord-Ostâ. The process of creating the play started in 1998. In the summer of that year, they chose the literary basis for the production - âTwo Captainsâ. The musicians did not want to create a rehash of some European musical, therefore they were looking for a source in Russian literature. There were several options, but Georgy Vasiliev and his co-author chose the book of Veniamin Kaverin.
In one interview, he shared a story about how the idea of ââtransferring this novel to the stage came. Alex suggested co-author to stage Two Captains, but he did not consider this novel a suitable basis for the musical. In the family of George Leonardovich there is a tradition. In summer, everyone reads a book together out loud. In 1998, the Vasilyev family chose Kaverinâs novel. George noted that children and adults are watching with interest the development of actions. He realized that this book is an ideal choice for staging. The musicians studied all the works of Benjamin Kaverin, when they worked on the adaptation of his book.
Our hero took part in creating scripts for films and three plays based on âTwo Captainsâ. The action of the novel covers three decades, so usually two characters play characters - in childhood and adulthood. The authors of Nord-Ost decided that three artists should embody one hero on stage - in childhood, adolescence and adulthood. The troupe Vasiliev and Ivashchenko collected a little more than a year. Almost all artists had an acting and musical education. Only two were without specialized education, but they were real talents. In April-June 2001, a school operated for the artists of the performance. Her task was to teach how to work in the conditions that are needed to stage a classic musical. Classes included choreography, vocals, stage movement, step. A feature of the production was that it was shown in the theater daily.
Premiere
Georgy Vasiliev said in an interview shortly before the premiere that the performance lasts three hours and covers an action that takes more than thirty years. Therefore, it opens with classical music at the turn of the century, then elements of music of the 20th century (tango, jazz), Soviet pop art appear. In the finale, rock sounds. The production is divided into two actions and consists of 43 numbers. The greeting of the actors of the play âNord-Ostâ was the launch of paper airplanes. On the day of the premiere of the performance in February 2002, one hundred such âflying vehiclesâ flew out of the audience.
Tragedy on Dubrovka
During the tragic events of the fall of 2002, Georgy Vasiliev was also among the hostages. He recalled that at the time of the attack he was in a recording studio. Hearing the shots, he ran to the hall. At that moment there was already a certain order - armed terrorists surrounded the audience. When the filters began to smoke, the director managed to convince the militants to give him the opportunity to turn them off, because a fire could happen. Over the course of three days, George managed to obtain concessions from the terrorists for the hostages step by step. It was directly under the air conditioner, from which the gas went during the assault. He was returned to consciousness only after ten hours.
Ban
A month after the tragedy, George left the hospital and began work on restoring the building of the Theater Center and the play. Problems with finances forced the creators to stop staging in 2003. Scenery "Nord-Ost" weighed about a ton and was not intended for transfer. Therefore, the cessation of performances in the Theater Center meant the end of the stage version of the musical. The co-authors tried to conduct a tour. In Nizhny Novgorod, âNord-Ostâ met the interest of the audience - instead of 9, they gave 14 performances. Then the artists performed in Tyumen. After that, under various pretexts, they began to refuse productions in other cities. Later attempts to restore the musical show were unsuccessful. TV channels also did not agree to use his recordings. This is probably due to the fact that the name of the performance has become a symbol of tragedy.
Producer
In the 2000s, Georgy Vasiliev took up production activities. He took part in the creation of several significant projects. In 2004, work began on the animated series Mountain of Gems. His series were adaptations of fairy tales of the peoples of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. The series continues to go out. In 2010, the animated series âFixicsâ was released based on the novel by
Eduard Uspensky. George Vasiliev - songwriter for the cartoon. He says in an interview that he was seriously worried about the lack of music for children for the past two decades. He translated good songs as much as he could. In 2006, George was the co-producer of the Multi-Russia project, in which viewers were told about the regions and peoples of the country. Our hero admits that he often changes the type of activity, as he tries not to do more than one large project within the same industry.
