Almagel Neo is a new multicomponent cationic non-absorbable antacid topical preparation in which Al and Mg are optimally correlated (0.86).
This preparation combines powerful buffering properties (it maintains pH for a long time in the range of 3.5–4.0 in the stomach, which prevents the occurrence of the “withdrawal” syndrome, the so-called “acid rebound”) and an acid-neutralizing effect.
The drug "Almagel Neo" adsorbs both bile acids and pepsin well. In addition, it provides increased mucus formation and synthesis of prostaglandins, envelops the mucosa, providing a cytoprotective effect. With the help of it, a protective film is formed on the damaged tissue and the tone of the esophagus sphincter is strengthened when passing into the stomach.
The drug "Almagel Neo" works directly after 3-5 minutes. Its duration is approximately 3 hours. The dosage form of almagel is a suspension that tastes good.
Almagel Neo receives the best reviews, because, unlike other antacid preparations, it contains simethicone, a substance that prevents gas formation and destroys already formed bubbles. This surfactant acts along the entire length of the gastrointestinal tract. The substance simethicone is a gas-dispersing, or carminative, remedy that eliminates the clinical symptoms of flatulence (rumbling in the abdomen, bloating, pain, bursting, burping air).
The drug "Almagel Neo" is prescribed for functional disorders in the digestive system or irritable bowel syndrome. A number of experiments were conducted, during which the advantages and disadvantages of using this drug were investigated. In patients participating in the experiment, in addition to functional disorders, the irritable bowel syndrome was also diagnosed.
The diagnosis was made on the basis of the clinic of the disease, the results of studies (coprograms, general analysis of blood and urine), as well as instrumental examination methods (FGDS, ultrasound, transendoscopic pH-metry). These patients received Almagel Neo medicine 4 times a day, 10 ml one hour after eating and at night for 2 weeks, after which their condition was evaluated according to the following criteria:
• dynamics of clinical manifestations (bloating, abdominal pain, bursting, belching, heartburn, flatulence) on a 4-point scale;
• reduction of acid production using transendoscopic fasting pH-metry;
• suppression of gas formation (absence of a gas bubble in the duodenum) according to the ultrasound study.
Analyzing the data: the drug "Almagel" received excellent reviews, as it effectively eliminates all the clinical manifestations of the above disorders. When taken for 2 weeks, all patients noted a positive dynamics of all clinical symptoms, and none of them developed side effects (flatulence, constipation, etc.). After 2 weeks, none of the subjects complained of flatulence and functional impairment. Thus, this experiment demonstrated the high effectiveness of Almagel Neo in the treatment of digestive tract pathology with symptoms such as flatulence and pain.
It is worth noting that the wide safety profile of this series of drugs allows their use in patients of various groups, however, their use is contraindicated in patients with severe renal failure. In addition, during pregnancy, the drug must be used no more than 3 days.
