Lydia was born on July 8, 1937 in Leningrad. The mother brought up the girl - Maria Gordeevna, because father Richard Germanovich died before the war. Lida has been engaged in singing and music since childhood: she studied at a music school, played the piano, and sang in the school choir.

She saw her future in a creative direction. However, the mother had a different opinion, who believed that it was necessary to choose a profession that could secure the future. The stepfather, an architect by education, also agreed with his wife. Therefore, Lida, listening to the opinions of family people, lost and in 1955 became a student of the Civil Engineering Institute. It was during the student years that Lida started a family with musician Boris Shafranov.

Music accompanied the girl during her studies: she performed in student jazz. After graduating from the institute, Lidia Richardovna Clement got a job as a designer, and continued her performances with the pop orchestra of the Palace of Culture named after Ordzhonikidze led by Naum Temkin. Most of all, the listeners liked the song "Nevsky fog" performed by a young singer. Work in the specialty lasted until the time of maternity leave, after which Lida did not return to engineering activities. She was not interested in drawings and whatman; the girl was looking for ways of creative self-realization.

At the peak of fame

In 1958, Lydia Clement continued her musical career in an ensemble organized by the head of the Leningrad Comedy Theater V. Fedorov. The audience loved this girl with beautiful blue eyes, dimples on her cheeks and a lovely smile. On stage, Lydia was very dignified; truly passionate about the song, she charged her listeners. In the soulful performance of the singer, the songs of Y. Saulsky, G. Portnov and Andrei Petrov gained their popularity.

In 1962, she became a member of the Rumyantsev quartet, who worked with composer V. Solovyov-Sedym. With this musical group, Lydia’s first and only trip abroad was to Hungary.

In the same year, at the Variety Theater, the singer became the soloist of the Anatoly Badchen Orchestra. The songs “Autumn”, “Rain on the Neva”, “Stars in a Conductor’s Bag”, “Is it really for me alone?”, “On the Barrow”, “If there weren’t lovers in the world” brought Clement all-Union fame. Her famous song "Karelia" was performed in Canada, Sweden, Finland.

Lydia Clement often performed on All-Union Radio, she was invited to television programs. The song "Karelia" performed by the Soviet singer was included in the film, shot by film director N. Kurikhin. Lida sang a song, sitting on a large boulder near the makeshift surface of the lake. The studio floor was covered with glass, and the play of sun glare on the water was represented by rays of light. At the end of the performance, the girl rose and seemed to go straight at the viewer. Her second image at that time was removed in the depth of the frame. It seemed that a successful creative life awaited the singer. But the girl already lived a terrible disease.
