Warren Kenneth Worthington III doubted that he was born crawling or walking, even while studying at school, when he had to hide his rapidly growing wings under his clothes. Well, he fully became convinced that this was not so when he became the Archangel - a character in the Marvel universe, a winged superhero and one of the wards of Professor Xavier, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
First flight
Despite the fact that Warren grew up in a wealthy family, his childhood can not be called cloudless, because from an early age his wings began to grow. The problem was that the guy had to go to school, and with his mutation, the future Archangel (Marvel Comics) was slightly different from the rest of the children.
At first, the wings could be hidden under the clothes without problems, but every day their sizes only increased, and soon they gave him the opportunity to fly, which turned out to be very helpful. Once, a fire broke out in a student dormitory, which forced Warren to spread his wings to save the residents in the building.
A little later, the wings ceased to fit under clothes, and parents found out about them. They could not come to terms with the fact that their son is a mutant, because in such a family all kinds of mutations were considered a shame. Therefore, they took their son to their suburban estate, where he was brought up as a servant, while his parents very carefully hid the peculiarity of his son from the press.
School of Mutants
Fortunately for Warren, Professor Charles Xavier noticed him. He offered the guy to study at school with other mutants, which not only the Archangel (Marvel Comics) himself, but also his parents rejoiced.
They liked that a specialist would look after Warren, because it allowed them to step back from raising their own son. Since then, the guy became a member of the X-Men squad. And it was there that he received the name Archangel (although in reality there were more names).
Forces and abilities
It is easy to guess that the main advantage of the winged superhero is his wings, whose span is about 5 meters. Thanks to them and the specific shape of his body, the Archangel (Angel, Avenging Angel) can fly.
In addition, his muscles are well developed, he has excellent vision, and his respiratory system allows him to breathe even during flight at high speed. In addition, blood with healing properties flows in his veins.
Not the Archangel, but Death
Warren Worthington III cannot be called a negative character, although dark spots can be found on his bright name. Once in one of the battles, the Archangel (Marvel Comics) was badly injured and, being in the hospital, was deprived of his wings. This greatly crippled the hero, but the Apocalypse invited him to return them, to which he immediately agreed, not suspecting that this was a trick.
As a result, he underwent serious genetic changes - the skin turned blue, and the wings were metallic and razor-sharp. He began to fly faster and higher. He became a rider of the Apocalypse named Death. Then his character changed, he became a ruthless and bloodthirsty killer. Later, when he managed to get rid of the influence of the villain, he participated in its destruction.
TV appearances
The Archangel (Marvel Comics) is found in the animated series X-Men. It tells about his origin, as well as about how he was going to meet with a certain scientist who could correct the situation with his mutation. But in fact, this scientist is the Apocalypse, which fraudulently turned the superhero into Death.
Warren can also be seen in several episodes of the animated series X-Men: Evolution, where Magneto is trying to recruit him. And also in the serial film "Wolverine and the X-Men", where he was first an Angel, and then became the Archangel.
Movie appearances
In the movie "X-Men: The Last Battle," Warren's father, learning about the terrible mutation of his son, was going to heal him. He manages to create a vaccine, but at the last moment the guy refuses to administer it and escapes to the school of mutant Charles Xavier. There he studies with other teenagers like him, and later takes part in the battle against Magneto and the army of the Brotherhood of Mutants.
The next appearance of the Archangel happened in the film "X-Men: Apocalypse", where his role was played by British actor Ben Hardy. There, the hero, under the threat of death, participates in clandestine battles of mutants. During one of the fights, the Angel (Marvel Comics) damages his wings, but soon escapes and gets to the Apocalypse, who decided to use it for his own purposes.
