At its core, the horror film "The Darkness" is a free adaptation of the director
Frank Darabont, the story of the outstanding Stephen King. Everyone knows that the writer emphasized the fact that the main monsters in his works are people, with almost every creation and creativity. So the story “Fog” makes a special emphasis on the relationship of the main characters, and not on bloodthirsty monsters. Nevertheless, he was not categorically against the fact that F. Darabont chose to change the ending of the original, making it darker in the film. This liberty caused a real resonance: the scale of the tragedy can be fully appreciated, if you are not too lazy and compare the original (book) and the film “The Darkness” - the reviews will be very contradictory. Most moviegoers, going to watch the film, expected to see a kind of survival horror, but saw something else.
About the plot without spoiler
The main action of the picture takes place in a limited, enclosed space, where a rather motley company turned out to be locked up by the will - all are scared to death and do not see a way out of this situation. Traditionally, among the company there is a leader, often a real madman, who in the events taking place will surely find a religious background. The film “Darkness”, reviews of which are very contradictory, highlights the effect of fear on people in an extreme situation, when horror turns respectable citizens into animals, and this turns out to be much worse than the threat posed by an alien monster who has arrived. Therefore, not only the film "The Darkness" (reviews of the film in particular), but also the general atmosphere provides food for thought.
Hopelessness of the general atmosphere - the main moral message of the film
Continuing to carefully study the “The Darkness” tape, reviews of the film, we can draw the simplest conclusion that human naivety, an unshakable faith in the best in the blink of an eye can turn into a kind of cult with an absolutely unacceptable, devoid of common sense ideology. The heroes of the film are experiencing similar changes in the psyche because of pessimism in the belief that there is no place to wait for help. However, even among the characters distraught with horror, there are individual heroes who still have reason and who have not irrevocably lost the spark of hope for salvation, so they are trying to act. As for the atmosphere of the film, it is a cocktail out of fear of the unknown and utter hopelessness.

Here, the mysterious fog played an important role in forcing the general atmosphere: the heart skips a sinking foreboding when a white veil inexorably covers the whole city and brings with it fear and death. But the final picture is simply shocking. Having previously read the article "The Darkness - Reviews of Film Critics" in the media, many could not have thought that it would all end. Personally, the final scene when watching me was depressed, for a long time not a single movie was so shocking. The final episode sounded in unison with the music of Dead Can Dance and seemed to turn inside out. In King’s short story, the ending is open and invites the reader to independently figure out the fate of the main characters, but the creators of the picture went the opposite way, placing bold dots on the “i”. Many films, especially psychological thrillers, after watching leave different feelings, but not this one. And it is useless to read opuses on the theme of “The Darkness” - reviews will not convey how emotionally this picture devastates, and, leaving nothing inside, simply plunges into shock. There is no anger, no longing, no pity, nothing, just a dumb question: "Why? .."
