Conjunctivitis. Treatment and prevention

Conjunctivitis is one of the most common diseases of the inner part of the eyelid. It is characterized by damage to the connective tissue in the organs of vision.

Causes of conjunctivitis

First of all, this disease is provoked by a variety of microorganisms that live in everyday life. It is transmitted through towels, uncleanliness of hands, pool water, applicators and brushes when applying makeup on the eyelids, if foreign bodies, road dust and a long stay in poorly ventilated rooms are exposed. Often the cause of conjunctivitis is a viral infection. As a complication, the disease is observed after the transmission of measles, scarlet fever, diseases of the nasopharynx, teeth, stomach and even the liver. Conjunctivitis periodically occurs in the form of an allergic reaction to any external effect.

Conjunctivitis. Symptoms and treatment

The treatment of conjunctivitis depends on its form of manifestation: acute or chronic. The acute form of the disease is characterized by redness of the eyelids and eyeball, pus, sometimes swelling. If it is chronic conjunctivitis, the symptoms are rather unpleasant, there is a sensation of clogged eyes, fatigue, burning, and a painful feeling from bright light.

Conjunctivitis. Acute treatment

If symptoms of a disease such as conjunctivitis appear, treatment is prescribed by a doctor. When removing the symptoms of an acute form, it is recommended to wash the eyes with medicinal herbs: chamomile, warm broth of sage, calendula, tea and rose hips. Among the drugs for washing, boric acid, furatsilin, potassium permanganate are used. Every morning, the eyes are treated with one of the solutions. In order not to spread the infection, sterile cotton wool is used for each eye separately.

Antimicrobials in the form of drops with the addition of sodium sulfacyl, tetracycline and tetramycin formulations are also used for washing. Before going to bed, a compress with an ointment with sulfanilamide preparations or an ointment containing antibiotics is applied forever. Treatment of acute conjunctivitis is a lengthy process. In order to avoid the body getting used to drugs, preparations should be changed every two weeks.

Conjunctivitis. Chronic treatment

In the treatment of symptoms of a chronic form, folk remedies help blueberries. It is recommended to include in the diet of 1 tbsp. fresh berries daily. In addition, blueberries have a beneficial effect on visual acuity. Successfully applied treatment with tincture of aloe juice (dilute boiled water in a ratio of 1:10). For lotions on the eyes, the marshmallow of the drug proved itself well.

Treatment of chronic conjunctivitis with drugs reduces to the use of liquid mixtures and cold compresses from astringents (tea infusion or a composition containing resorcinol), with exacerbations and the presence of pustular eye lesions - doctors prescribe drops with the addition of antibiotics. Before going to bed, apply compresses from disinfecting ointments. With proper treatment, chronic conjunctivitis is quite possible to overcome in 4-5 weeks. The disease is considered eliminated only when the infection is completely eliminated and all painful consequences have disappeared.

Conjunctivitis Prevention

As a prevention of acute and chronic conjunctivitis, it is important to take measures to maintain individual cleanliness (wash hands thoroughly, use personal items). Contact with patients should be limited. In the case when this is not possible, it is recommended to instill the composition with the addition of sodium sulfacyl in the eyes for several days. Until the purulent formations cease, towel and bedding should be replaced every day. It is better to temporarily abandon the use of household items. It should be remembered that infection with this disease, as a rule, occurs through dirty hands and in contact with carriers of the disease.

If conjunctivitis is suspected, treatment should not be delayed.
