What is pain? It is unlikely that a person without a medical education will be able to give a correct definition of this symptom. In fact, this is physical or mental discomfort that violates a person’s usual life.
Physical pain occurs as a result of trauma or excessive stimulation of nerve receptors or trunks. In response to this irritation, the nerve sends an impulse to the brain, which forms a reaction - pain.
What can cause girdle pain under the ribs?
- Chronic or acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory process of the pancreas, characterized by changes in its parenchyma and impaired endocrine function. Pain occurs as a result of an inflammatory reaction - the infiltrate compresses the nerve endings. With pancreatitis, it has a clear connection with the use of food, especially meat. Sometimes people try to eat nothing at all, because it brings them relief. In addition to pain, patients complain of dyspeptic disorders of the digestive system: bloating and rumbling of the abdomen, nausea and vomiting, violation of the bowel movement.
- Tinea pain under the ribs may be of cardiac origin. For example, with total myocardial infarction, when most of the heart muscle is affected, there is pain radiating to the left hypochondrium, left shoulder blade and back. It has a stabbing dagger character, accompanied by a sharp deterioration in overall health, loss of consciousness. This causes a cold, sticky sweat. Patients note a violation of sensitivity in the left arm, leg, trunk.
- Perhaps the pain under the ribs in the middle is neuralgia, not a pathology of the internal organs. Often patients are not able to differentiate superficial pains from deep ones. However, they have one very important difference: neuralgia or inflammation of the nerve endings disappears after taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and deep pains do not.
- Shingles under the ribs can also occur with cholelithiasis, a disease characterized by the formation of stones in the gallbladder cavity or ducts. If a person begins an attack of hepatic colic, then it occurs mainly in the right hypochondrium, and then can spread to the back and stomach. These pains are very difficult for patients to tolerate due to their intense nature and poor susceptibility to medications.
- Diseases of the lungs and pleura can cause pain under the ribs in the back, in the area of the corners of the shoulder blades. Most often, pneumonia, pleurisy, lung abscesses and tuberculosis are accompanied by this symptom. A distinctive feature of these diseases is that in addition to pain, they are always characterized by symptoms of impaired lung function: cough, sputum or blood-purulent discharge, shortness of breath.
- With a peptic ulcer of the stomach or 12th intestine, shingles under the ribs can also occur. Most often this happens when an infectious agent is attached or complications form. The ulcer pain can also be spilled in asthenic people.
- Diseases of the kidneys and urinary system are often characterized by the onset of pain radiating to the region of the costal arch. However, most often the pain is clearly localized and only with the generalization of the inflammatory process, the formation of subcapsular abscesses, it can be projected under the ribs.
It should be noted that it is very difficult for an incompetent person to conduct differential diagnosis of pain on his own. It is best to entrust this matter to specialists, i.e. see a doctor. Indeed, often pain is not an initial, but a terminal symptom. In such situations, emergency care is required for patients.
