Angmar Sorcerer King from The Lord of the Rings

The "Legendarium" by J. R. R. Tolkien introduced us to one of the most interesting and vivid characters from the world of literature. Even in our time, few are unfamiliar with names like Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, Gollum or Aragorn. Even the villains could not stay away and won the hearts of fans around the world.

Today we decided to talk about one of the most memorable antagonists of Middle-earth - about the Angmar Sorcerer King from The Lord of the Rings. He is also known as the Lord of Terror and the Leader of the Nazguls.

Appearance

The childhood, appearance and even the origin of the Angmar Sorcerer King remain a mystery. In the guise of a living and visible person, he existed even before the events of The Lord of the Rings, several thousand years ago. Other heroes of the Legendarium could see the king only with the help of the ring of omnipotence, which means that for ordinary mortals he remained invisible.

One day he appeared in front of a hobbit named Frodo. The little hero saw in front of him a tall warrior, dressed in armor and a cloak, withered and with deathly pale skin. From the other Nazguls, the Angmar Sorcerer King was distinguished by the fact that he wore the ghostly crown of his kingdom.

Third era

During this period, the witch-king ruled the northern kingdom of Angmar, and also opposed the other northern kingdom of Dunedain. There is an opinion that he owed his military successes to Sauron, since many Numenor kingdoms fell under his rule.

Around the same time, the king receives a prediction about his own death, which was originally interpreted as the superiority of the elven kingdom. Later this prophecy was put into action in a completely different way, which turned out to be a big surprise.

After a series of battles that led to the fall of Angmar, the witch king took refuge in Mordor and became the servant of Sauron.

The place where the future Nazgul leader began to dwell was called Minas Morgul. It is believed that, being a servant of the dark Lord, the sorcerer, along with his faithful companions, became part of the Eternal Night ritual, which turned them into undead undead.

The Angmar king was commissioned to lead a Nazgul squad. Together they subjected their opponents to wild, irrational horror, demoralized them and plunged them into a pool of black despair. Like all subordinates of Sauron, the sorcerer king had a special ring.

When a single Ring was discovered, it was the King of Angmar who went after him to the hobbit village. However, the mission failed, and the Nazgul squad was defeated. As a result, they lost their appearance, however, due to their immortality, they were able to restore it before the battle on the Pelenor fields.

During the battle, the King of Angmar was assigned the role of commander in chief of the attacking forces. He also developed plans for an attack on Osgiliath and Gondor. They had a brilliant disposition, attention to a variety of military units and geographical features and other strengths.

It was on the Pelenor fields that the confrontation between the sorcerer king and Gandalf Bely almost happened . No one knows who could win in the event of a duel, however, fortunately, the Angmar sorcerer was more distracted by things. It turned out that from the side of the opponents an unexpected reinforcement arrived, which could ruin the plans of the dark army.

Going down to the field, the sorcerer attacked King Rohan, but could not end him - he was prevented by two soldiers. It could not have occurred to the Angmar witch king that it was here that he would meet his doom. Unknown warriors turned out to be the hobbit and niece of the Rohan king, who inflicted a mortal blow on the witch king, thereby fulfilling the elven prophecy.
