Primrose Syrup: instructions for use

Coughing is an unpleasant ailment. And most importantly, often "clinging" tightly, so that you will not get rid. Fortunately, today on the pharmaceutical market a lot of tools are presented with which you can still overcome this infection. One such remedy is Herbion, a primrose syrup. Read more about this medicine later.

What is primrose

A primrose is such a plant. It refers to those that begin to bloom early. In another way, it is also called primrose.

Primrose plant

Outwardly, the primrose resembles a beautiful flowering grass of small size. This so-called grass has a wide range of properties useful to the human body, and therefore is actively used in pharmacology.

Primrose Syrup: composition and form

In “Herbion”, in addition to the liquid extract of the primrose - more precisely, its roots - there is also an extract of thyme - a flowering herb in the form of a shrub that has been widely used not only in medicine, but also in cosmetology, and in cooking. Moreover, the latter in the composition of the syrup is even slightly larger than the primrose itself.

In addition to these two herbs, or rather their extracts, the Herbion also contains a variety of auxiliary elements, including sucrose. As for the form of release of primrose syrup and thyme "Herbion", then, as you might guess, it is only one. The medicine is released exclusively at 150 milliliters in bottles of dark glass.

Herbion Primrose Syrup

What is useful "Herbion"

The above syrup is based on herbs, which in principle does not harm the body - the benefits of herbs for humans have been proven for a long time. However, Herbion has a very specific field of application: it is an expectorant medicine. Also, this primrose syrup with vitamin C has antimicrobial properties aimed at minimizing inflammatory processes. The product dilutes sputum and improves the process of its exit from the body. In other words, cough primrose syrup is intended. And the cough is mostly wet (a dry cough has no secretions in the form of sputum; doctors call it unproductive, unlike wet or wet, because it does not bring relief - on the contrary, only irritation and tension of the respiratory tract). We will tell about indications, contraindications, side effects and everything else that can be reported by the instructions for use of primrose syrup, below.

When can

So, let's start with the testimony. In what cases will the application of Herbion be expedient and effective? For example, with bronchitis, tracheitis and any other respiratory diseases that are inflammatory in nature.

Cough medicine

At the same time, you must understand that you won’t be fed up with “Herbion” - with such ailments, the treatment should be comprehensive, and only in the combination therapy of the primrose syrup “Herbion” can be prescribed to the patient. However, here again there are pitfalls - contraindications. We will talk about them further.

When not

Even if the patient has a wet cough and an inflammatory process, he should never take "Herbion" if:

  1. He suffers from bronchial asthma and / or diabetes.
  2. He is a child who has recently had croup in the acute stage.
  3. The patient has fructose intolerance, including hereditary.
  4. He does not tolerate one or more components of primrose syrup; you suffer from allergies to plants of the family primrose and / or calendula.
  5. He has congenital deficiency of sucrose-isomaltase.
  6. A patient is a child who is not yet two years old.

In all these cases, taking "Herbion" is not justified, and it is better to look for other drugs that are similar in effect (we will talk about analogues of primrose syrup a little later).

Can pregnant and lactating

Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are a special category of people who, because of their high risk, can not get almost any medicine. As for the primrose syrup "Herbion", the instructions for use on this account say the following: it is not recommended to take the drug either for future mothers or newly-minted ones, since there is not enough data on how this can affect a woman and a child. So here, if necessary, it will have to be treated in some other way.

Side effects

We talked about what kind of cough syrup of the primrose "Herbion" is recommended and how good it is. It is time to state the disadvantages of this drug. And they certainly have - like any other drug - and are expressed in the manifestation of side effects. However, this is not necessary at all, but "warned - means armed."

Herbion for cough

So, “Herbion” has the following side effects (there are not many of them): allergic reactions (that’s why you should pay special attention to the possible use of the drug for those who are allergic), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. The instructions for primrose syrup say that such manifestations are extremely rare. Of course, if you find such symptoms, you should stop taking the medicine and immediately contact your doctor. In the same way, by the way, as with an overdose of the drug - this, although very unlikely, is also possible in theory.

How to use

Now let's move on to what dosage and how it is necessary to correctly take the Herbion primrose syrup. The instructions for use say that the syrup should be shaken well beforehand, and after using it for its intended purpose, that is, inside, drink plenty of warm water.

This procedure should be performed after meals in the following doses: an adult needs three scoops (a scoop is in the package; it holds about five milliliters of the drug) three or four times a day. Adolescents from fourteen and above should take two scoops as many times a day. Children from five to fourteen years old - one spoonful three times a day. And finally, babies from two to five - half a scoop also three times a day.

The taste of primrose syrup is not nasty, which is important. The duration of admission should be determined by the doctor who prescribed such treatment, however, as a rule, therapy is carried out no more and no less than two to three weeks.

additional information

Many drugs adversely affect the functioning of the brain and nervous system, in particular, inhibit the reaction. That is why when taking such drugs, it is undesirable or even forbidden to drive. As for the primrose syrup, it does not have any effect on both the ability to control the machine and the ability to perform any actions with technical means.

The following fact is very important, and special attention should be paid to it. You can not take "Herbion" and any cough suppressants that reduce the formation of sputum. Such remedies will prevent primrose syrup from exerting its expectorant effect.

To store "Herbion" is necessary only at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees. It is forbidden to keep medicine in the refrigerator. Shelf life of the drug is three years, however, if the bottles are already reaped, the storage period is sharply reduced - up to three months.

Analogs of "Herbion"

Like any other drug, Herbion, of course, has analogues. We will talk about them further. And first of all, a drug called “Bronchipret” should be mentioned. This is also a syrup, but it is produced not in a hundred and fifty, but in a hundred and fifty milliliters. The effect of this drug is the same as that of primrose syrup - antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, expectorant. The composition is slightly different: it also contains liquid thyme extract, but instead of primrose, the second component is ivy leaf extract. Bronchipret also has ethanol and many other minor auxiliary ingredients.

"Bronchipret" is prescribed with caution to children - precisely because of the presence of ethanol in the composition of the drug. Up to three months of age, the use of the drug is strictly prohibited, later - only upon special instructions from the attending physician and under the vigilant supervision of physicians. Also, because of ethanol, you should not prescribe Bronchipret to people suffering from alcohol dependence, epilepsy, and liver diseases. But it can be taken by patients with diabetes mellitus - unlike primrose syrup. The latter, as we recall, is prohibited for such citizens.

Cough bronchipret

Another analogue of the primrose syrup “Herbion” is Pertussin syrup. One hundred milliliters of the drug contains extracts of thyme and thyme, being a herbal-synthetic expectorant. Pertussin is prescribed not only as an expectorant, but also as an emollient; One of the indications for the use of this drug is pertussis in children. But the drug has practically no contraindications - exclusively individual intolerance to the drug and / or any of its individual components.

Gedelix is also a good remedy that can compare with the herbal syrup we are discussing. In it, unlike all the other preparations mentioned above, there are not several main components in the composition, but only one - and this is ivy leaf extract. In addition to expectorant action, this drug has both mucolytic and antispasmodic. By the way, it should be noted that, in contrast to all previous Gedelix medicines, two types are available - there is syrup, but there are drops. Syrup is sold in bottles of one hundred milliliters, drops in the same amount.

“Gedelix” should not be used for people with hypersensitivity to fructose, with bronchial asthma (only drops are forbidden), and drops are contraindicated in children under two years of age. In addition, Gedelix is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women for the same reason - because of the poorly understood effect on the mother and baby.

Gedelix Syrup

It is also necessary to note such similarities of Herbion herbal syrup as marshmallow root syrup - it is permissible for them to be treated starting from the age of twelve. And here is the Kodelak Broncho; "Ambroxol" and "Tussamag" - you can even one-year-old toddlers; "Fluditec" - can be from the age of two.

Reviews about the drug

Reviews of primrose syrup are quite supportive. People write that it is easy to give it even to kids - the syrup is very sweet to the taste, so the crumbs do not harm and do not refuse to drink the medicine. They also note that the risk of allergies when taking Herbion is minimized, that this remedy is natural, without harmful chemical additives. The action of the drug, according to customers, is mild; he copes with a wet cough in a rather short period of time - faster than other means. In general, for many of those who have encountered a wet cough, primrose syrup has become a truly indispensable medicine and a real helper.
