Sluggish schizophrenia is a term long known in psychiatry. The roots of this diagnosis go back to Soviet times, when such a disorder was diagnosed in the majority of citizens who disagree with party policy. It was very beneficial to detect such a disease in a person, since he was unconditionally declared incompetent and, accordingly, did not pose any more danger to the authorities.
It is not surprising that in those repressive times no one studied the signs of this ailment, because the disorder was interesting only in terms of punitive measures. To this day, sluggish schizophrenia has not been studied by Russian doctors to the extent that their Western colleagues did. It is not known how much more time will be needed for our fellow citizens to trust psychiatrists.
Despite everything, the term “sluggish schizophrenia” was coined not by politicians, but by doctors who singled out this disease into a special form of endogenous psychosis.
Each of us is surely trembling at the mention of this dangerous disorder. Some even find signs of sluggish schizophrenia, mistaking them for symptoms of normal fatigue or stress. According to studies, about 85 percent of cases of such a disease result in a complete recovery of the patient. The main thing is to get treatment with special drugs on time. In addition, schizotypal disorder as such is not so common. It is necessary to distinguish it from all sorts of personality disorders or accentuation of character. It is these mental disorders that are observed most often in those who turn to a psychiatrist.
What are the symptoms of schizophrenia in adults?
It is very important to be careful about the behavior of your near and dear ones. In no case should you ignore the following changes in human behavior:
- Unreasonable coldness and isolation in behavior, unwillingness to communicate even with the closest people, indifference to the requests and problems of others.
- Neglect of basic rules of personal hygiene.
- The apparent strangeness of behavior.
- Proposals are built competently, but too pathos. And pronounced all in one intonation.
- Slow action is becoming more and more noticeable. Passivity in relation to everything that happens.
- The stream of thoughts alternates with their sudden cliff.
- The patient's complaints about the absence of any emotions, a feeling of complete emptiness.
- The ability to share emotions with loved ones is lost.
- What used to bring joy does not cause the slightest response in the soul.
- Inability to be content or unhappy.
The above symptoms may indicate that a person has sluggish schizophrenia. However, a final diagnosis should be provided to specialists, since neurosis can also be accompanied by such changes.
The most dangerous are the symptoms of the first rank, directly indicating that a person is suffering from a serious mental disorder. The indicators of the disease in question are as follows:
- Thoughts acquire surround sound, turning into the category of sound hallucinations.
- Constantly heard voices in the head that argue with each other.
- A voice in the head can comment on what is happening around.

- A feeling of foreign thoughts, in which it seems that someone else puts them in the head of the patient.
Sluggish schizophrenia is a disease that is accompanied by blurring of the boundaries that separate a person’s personality from the outside world. In this case, internal events are no longer separated from external ones, a kind of loosening of established faces takes place.
