Traditional recipes: potato pies

In this article we will tell you how to cook large potato pies. Although this dish is made from simple products, it requires some skill and culinary skills. As the filling, as you guessed from the name, potatoes are cut into thin slices. Having tried to cook according to a traditional recipe, you can experiment with the components. To make the pies with potatoes tasty, and the filling not to remain raw, you need to cook them for at least fifty minutes. Therefore, we stock up on patience and the following ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups of milk;

    1.5-2 teaspoons of yeast;
  • 4 tablespoons of sugar;
  • 2.5 cups sifted wheat flour for dough and a little for sprinkling;
  • 30 grams of butter;
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil;
  • 1 teaspoon of salt.

To make the filling, preparing pies with potatoes, take:

  • 1 medium onion;
  • 1 teaspoon of salt;
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil;
  • 600 grams of potatoes.

First, prepare a dough for yeast dough. In slightly warmed milk, dissolve one tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt. There we put the yeast, mix, and then put in a warm place for about 10 minutes or until the yeast begins to rise. Next, knead the dough. Beat the egg with the remaining sugar. Pour flour into a deep bowl. We’ll pour salt in there. In a hill of flour we make a β€œcrater”. Pour dough, a beaten egg with sugar, vegetable oil into it and put a slightly softened butter. Knead the dough thoroughly for ten to fifteen minutes. If you have a bread machine in your arsenal - great! You can use it by turning on the mode of kneading or making yeast dough. Of course, all manipulations must be done patiently and without fuss. We cover the container with the prepared dough with a towel or cling film and put in a warm place for an hour or two. During this time, the mass should increase in volume by about two to three times. You can periodically crush him. From this test, you can cook not only pies with potatoes, but also with other fillings. For example, with cabbage, mushrooms, meat, vegetables, cheese, onions and so on. Do not be afraid to experiment and choose the ingredients to your liking. After all, this creative part in the culinary business is the most interesting and turns a traditional dish into an unusual original recipe!

But first, we’ll make a traditional filling in our potato pie (a photo of the finished dish is attached). Wash tubers under running water, peel them. Then cut the potatoes into small plates, as for the preparation of chips. Peel the onion from the husk and cut into the same thin half rings. Salt, mix and leave our future filling in pies with potatoes for 20-30 minutes. During this time, the mixture should let the juice go. Then squeeze out excess water and add vegetable oil. We grease the baking dish and make the basis for the pie from the dough part. Sprinkle with flour, evenly straighten and form a side. We distribute the filling, and cover with the second part of the dough on top. Fasten the edges. Let stand for 20 minutes. Next, cover with foil our pies with potatoes and put in the oven preheated to 245 degrees. First, bake for about 10 minutes at this temperature, and then lower it to 160 degrees and continue to bake for about 35 minutes. Then remove the foil and cook the rest of the time. Done!
