Tool Group - Gods of Progressive Rock!

The California band Tool has become famous for its crazy experiments with various instruments and artistic trends in music. According to critics, the team is the clearest evidence that everything is possible in progressive art rock. The main thing is to have imagination and skillfully implement your own ideas. A breakthrough to the pinnacle of fame was the album of the band Tool called Ænima.

Structure

  • Maynard James Keenan - vocals;
  • Adam Jones - guitar;
  • Justin Chancellor - bass;
  • Danny Carrie - Drum Kit.

Carier start

All members of the future team in the distant 80s moved to Los Angeles to occupy their niche in society. Maynard James Keenan got a job as a designer of pet stores, as he was an artist by education. Adam Jones and Paul D'Amour dreamed about Hollywood, trying to get used to acting. But Danny Carrie at that time was already an accomplished musician, working with the teams Pigmy Love Circus, Wild Blue Yonder, Karol King and Green Jellÿ.

These are real rebels.

A year later, fate brought Adam and Maynard together. During the communication, the future vocalist showed a recording on which he performed his own song. Jones was delighted with his vocal abilities, so the guys agreed to create a new group. Soon they were joined by Carrie, who initially just took pity on the guys, since no one wanted to join their young team. Then one of Adam's comrades introduced Paul to the boys.

Promotion

Two years passed, filled with performances on the outskirts of Los Angeles, before the guys signed a contract with the first label, which became Zoo Entertainment. In the 92nd, the mini-album of the rock band Tool called Opiate was released, which included six heavy tracks. According to the guys themselves, the sound was very "explosive and shocking."

Soon there appeared the first clip of the band Tool for the song Hush, which reflected the negative attitude of musicians to the propaganda of censorship by Parents Music Resource Center. The participants provocatively stripped naked, taped their mouths with tape, and in the area of the "causal place" there were stickers with the inscription Parental Advisory.

And the evidence is so simple

Then the Tool group began to tour again, honing their skills on the same stage with Rage Against the Machine and Fishbone. This helped to get positive feedback from Jeniss Jarzy (RIP Magazine), who said “Tools” was “a loud start to something global.”

Popularity

In 1993, a full-fledged studio vinyl Undertow was released, which came just at the dawn of grunge and alternatives. Its sound was lighter and more diverse than in Opiate, which attracted new listeners. Soon, concerts were held at the Lollapalooza festival, during which the manager transferred the group closer to the headliners.

When the festival came to Los Angeles, the appearance of the group was announced by the famous comedian Bill Hicks, who made close friends with the musicians from the band Tool. For fun, he appealed to the audience with a request not to disperse and find his lost lenses.

They go against the system

These performances were of great importance for the guys, since Undertow was noticed and received first gold, and then platinum status. Sober song in March 94th became the band's first hit, and brought the guys an award from Billboard for "The best video clip of the new artist."

The departure of D'Amour and nima

While working on the album of the 95th year, the bass player left the group, going on a free swim. In exchange came the ex-guitarist of Peach, who was chosen by Keenan during the casting.

Ænima was presented on September 17, 1996, which became platinum three times by March 2003. He became a dedication to Bill Hicks, who passed away two years before. The views of the musicians and the comedian were in many respects similar, which became the foundation of their friendship. However, the first song called Stinkfist was trimmed by radio DJs for obscene content. The tour in support of Ænima began immediately, the group finally left the borders of their native America, visiting Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Despite the fact that alternative rock went out of fashion by the mid-90s, this did not affect the quality of the nima album. The title track brought Grammy musicians for Best Metal Performance.

Combination with work in other projects

In the 2000s, Keenan joined the A Perfect Circle team, which was founded by their technician Billy Hurdel. Meanwhile, Jones began to perform frequently with the Melvins, and Carrie plunged into work with many third-party projects. Rumors spread about the imminent disintegration of Tool, and the guys, meanwhile, worked hard on the next album. Soon, the Salival box set came out, announcing that not everything was lost.

Adam Jones

The year 2001 came, and “Tule” released the new album Lateralus, which attracted fans of progressive rock. He suddenly appeared on the first line of the Billboard 200, and the song Schism brought the musicians a new Grammy Award.

The one-year tour was significant in the band’s career, giving them the title of “Kings of Progressive Rock for All Time”. Then there was a pause during which the musicians did not sit idly by. Despite the fact that Keenan worked “on the side”, other participants recorded new material and gave a couple of interviews.

10,000 Days

Over the 15 years of its existence, the Tul group has created a cult around itself and has achieved great success. The 2006 album, entitled 10,000 Days, was posted on the Internet a few days before the official release, which greatly infuriated the musicians. The very first composition Vicarious soared to the top of the world charts, and sales of the disc itself amounted to more than 564 thousand copies in the first week. The new album again brought Grammy musicians for "Best Cover Art", the title single was nominated in the "Best Hard Rock Performance" category. However, critics liked the album less than Lateralus, but nobody paid attention to it.

A major tour soon followed with the participation of the Mastodon and Isis teams. But after several concerts, a further part of the tour was postponed, as Danny Carrie was in trouble - his girlfriend's dog injured his biceps.

Tool Group's New Album

After several touring tours and participating in significant festivals, the team set to work on new material, which lasted several years. Probably the reason was the vigorous activity of musicians in other projects. The album was scheduled for release in 2014, but it is still in the process.
