The actor was born in 1932, on March 15, in Vladikavkaz (then - Ordzhonikidze) in a family of workers. At the beginning of the war, in 1941, the father of little Jura died at the front.

In 1951, after graduating from school, Yuri Gorobets was sent to Moscow to study at the Academy of Tank Forces named after Stalin. He escaped from there without passing the entrance exams completely. The future actor decided to try to study at GITIS.
He, who had not passed the exams to the academy, should have been sent to serve in the army, but the talented young man got the release, and he was enrolled as a student of the Institute of Theater Arts.
