Dmitry Svetozarov is a man who has done a lot for Russian cinema. His film projects and TV shows are appreciated by the audience not only for the unusual and fascinating plot, but also for the master’s ability to collect vivid acting ensembles. If it weren’t for the director, the public could never have found out about such wonderful people as Mikhail Porechenkov, Igor Lifanov, Sergey Bekhterev. What is known about this talented man whom journalists dubbed the "father" of Russian TV shows?
Dmitry Svetozarov: biography of the star (briefly)
The boy, who was ordered by fate to become a famous director and screenwriter, was born in 1951. His hometown became St. Petersburg, at that time still called Leningrad. Dmitry Svetozarov delighted with his birth the famous pope Joseph Kheifits, whose works are considered by critics to be a classic of Soviet cinema.
It is not surprising that a child born in a creative family, from early childhood, was interested in the world of cinema. Nevertheless, Dmitry Svetozarov, having graduated from school, received a philological education, worked for several years as a translator. However, the passion for cinema won, the guy became a student of the Higher Director's Courses. The thesis of a talented young man was called "Glasses from the Sun", after its successful completion, he became the director of the studio "Lenfilm".
Bright debut
It is interesting that Dmitry Svetozarov carried out the "invasion" of the world of big cinema in the era of stagnation, when new film projects came out less and less, were ruthlessly censored and looked like each other like "twin brothers." The director first made his name in 1983 by submitting the sports drama Speed to the public. They talked about him and his work, as the film helped the master to declare his intention to closely engage in the field of genre cinema, which was practically not affected in the Soviet Union.

The unusual movie was warmly received by the audience and critics, the press began to be interested in the novice director, which Dmitry Svetozarov was in those years. Films shot after “Speed” helped the master to consolidate his success. In particular, the following cinema story describing the events associated with a serious accident in the Leningrad metro made a splash. It is interesting that the Breakthrough film, which was released in 1986, became the second catastrophe film in the history of cinema.
Strip of failure
Perestroika negatively affected the fate of many creative people, and Svetozarov was no exception. The maestro's style became more rigid, he lost his willingness to compromise, which cinema bosses did not like. Negative attitude to the films of Dmitry appeared in 1988, when he was shot the drama "Without a uniform."
The next picture, created by the master, did not get into the rental at all. It was the thriller “Dogs”, which became the first film project belonging to this genre in Russia. Officials did not like the fact that the director took up the study of the dark sides of the human soul. The drama was recognized as excessively brutal, as a result of which its demonstration was banned.
Top movies
Director Dmitry Svetozarov did not give up his profession, having survived several failures, managed to maintain his own special style. The tape, which gave him real glory, was released in 1991. The breakthrough film was Arithmetic of Murder, which belongs to the category of psychological detectives. Thanks to this picture, the audience also met with such a wonderful actor as Sergei Bekhterev.
A new surprise from Dmitry was waiting for fans in 1992. Svetozarov temporarily abandoned the creation of genre cinema, releasing the drama "Gadzho", dedicated to the mysterious world of gypsies, almost turning the public's view of these people.
The year 2002 was also fruitful for the director when he shot the serial drama “By the Name of Baron”. Critics called the film an excellent gangster saga, atmosphere and plot reminiscent of the famous product of foreign production Once Upon a Time in America. Finally, there is hardly a person who has never heard of such a famous work of the master as the serial film Crime and Punishment. The plot was borrowed from the work of the same name by Dostoevsky.
Interesting series
It is believed that it was Svetozarov Dmitry Iosifovich who introduced fashion for TV shows in Russia. The television project “Streets of Broken Lights”, presented to the public in 1997, made a real sensation. The soap opera, which tells about the adventures of brave law enforcement officers, was shot for a decade, in total, viewers saw more than 150 episodes.
The next famous creation of Svetozarov, the television project Agent of National Security, was also waiting for great popularity. The director not only shot the series, but also acted as the author of the idea.
This is how the most interesting film projects and series created by a talented director look like.
