Today we will prepare souvlaki. What it is? Firstly, this dish was created in Greece. Secondly, it is considered fast food. In almost every local restaurant and cafe you can order souvlaki. What is baking or snack? In fact, these are small kebabs that are prepared and served on wooden skewers. Residents of Greece traditionally make souvlaki from pork meat or fish. There are options for dishes using lamb and chicken.
Souvlaki: Greek Cuisine Recipe
Essential Ingredients:
- dried oregano - ΒΌ tsp;
- one onion;
- 0.6 kg of pork (required pulp);
- garlic - a pair of cloves;
- one bell pepper;
- 1.3 tbsp. l olive oil.
Practical part
- Where do we start? We spread everything on the table from which the souvlaki dish will be prepared . The recipe is classic. It involves the use of pork. So, take a piece of meat. We rinse in running water. Cut into medium pieces that are easy and quick to fry.
- We transfer the pork to the pan. There we send the onion. It should be cut into slices, not rings. Otherwise, it will simply burn.
- Sprinkle pieces of meat and onion in oregano in the right amount. And squeeze the garlic. Pour these ingredients with soy sauce and oil. Coarsely chopped pepper is also added to the meat and onion. All this mix.
- We remove the pan with the contents in the refrigerator (on the middle shelf, and not in the freezer). After 3 hours we get it.
- Pickled skewers are strung on wooden skewers. First comes the meat, then the onion, again the meat and pepper.
- Skewers with pieces of pork and vegetables are placed over a baking sheet. We cover it with foil (not necessary), and put on it quarters of peeled potatoes.
- Preheat the oven by setting the temperature to maximum. Put the baking sheet under the grill. We detect 10-15 minutes.
- We remove the kebabs, and the potatoes should be in the oven a little more. Add the remaining pepper and onion to it. Water the marinade. It turns out a very tasty side dish. Shashlik souvlaki spread on a dish. Next we put a plate with fresh vegetables, cut into medium pieces. You can pour kebabs with juice squeezed from lemon. In any case, it turns out a delicious dish with Greek flavor.
Cooking souvlaki at home (chicken option)
Grocery set:
- 100 g of yogurt and halumi cheese ;
- chicken fillet - 2 pcs.;
- one onion;
- mint - a pair of twigs;
- olive oil - enough 1 tbsp. l .;
- one bell pepper;
- 150 feta cheese.

Step number 1. First, chop the chicken meat. Marinate the slices in a mixture of oregano, olive oil and lemon juice.
Step number 2. We do not need an oven. This time we will use the grill. Lubricate the pan with oil.
Step number 3. We proceed to the processing of vegetables. Remove the husk from the onion. Cut the flesh into half rings. We wash the pepper. Grind in half rings.
Step No. 4. Pieces of vegetables are placed on the grill. Fry on both sides until stripes appear.
Step number 5. Pickled chicken strung on wooden skewers.
Step number 6. We remove the vegetables from the grill. Skewers with meat take their place. When the barbecue is cooked, turn off the grill.
Step number 7. The last touch remains. It's about making the sauce. To do this, in a bowl we combine the slices of two types of cheese, mint and yogurt. We send the ingredients to a blender for subsequent grinding.
Step number 8. Our dish (chicken souvlaki) is ready to serve. They can be eaten directly from skewers. Sauce and grilled vegetables are included.
Recipe for Fish Lovers
Grocery list:
- zest of one lemon;
- Lavrushka - 7-10 sheets (optional);
- dried oregano - Β½ tbsp. l .;
- sea ββsalt;
- garlic - one clove (chop);
- 0.5 kg of white (oily) fish;
- olive oil - enough 4 tbsp. l .;
- spices (e.g. pepper).
Cooking process
- We wash, clean and grind the fish into cubes (no more than 2.5 cm). We shift to glassware.
- In a separate bowl, mix the squeezed garlic and chopped zest, removed from the lemon. Add oil and oregano. Solim. We pour the resulting marinade over the fish. Leave for 10 minutes.
- Wooden skewers should be soaked in water. We keep them there for several minutes. What's next? We proceed to stringing pieces of fish. One thing to consider here. Every 2 pieces we put a bay leaf on a skewer.
