If you do not touch the Arabian fairy tales “1000 and 1 Nights,” then Soviet viewers first saw this princess in the film-tale of the now sixties of the twentieth century - “Aladdin's Magic Lamp”. It is easy to recall this lovely girl living in her father’s palace.
Although Princess Budur was beautiful, like the morning dawn, she was simultaneously impossibly capricious and foolishly independent. She wanted to do everything in her life herself, not taking the advice of older and wiser people.
Who to marry?
Is this how she came to an important decision in her life? The time has come for her to marry. Her father took her a vizier, and she was unhappy and resisted every minute. The tale about Princess Budur says that the girl wanted something that would be different from her life, she wanted something new, completely different. And this “other” appeared in the person of Aladdin - a kind, but eccentric young man who lives very poorly with his old mother. This guy decided to teach a obstinate and capricious girl a lesson. He secretly takes her to the courtyard of his small house. There, Princess Budur, a fairy tale for which was not quite the same as she imagined it, could touch a life unfamiliar to her. She saw how the most ordinary cakes are baked, what goats are and how to properly milk them in order to get delicious milk.
For Aladdin and his mother, these were the most ordinary things, but Princess Budur saw all this for the first time. And she fell in love. But what was the subject of her feelings? Either Aladdin himself, or new impressions and emotions that she felt, being in an unfamiliar place for her? Let everyone find this answer for himself. As he understands the situation.
Dodo or Budur?
And who remembers the amazing beauty with huge eyes that was on the screen of that very whim? Who “revived” the fairy-tale heroine, whose name was Princess Budur? The actress who played her is no longer so young and perhaps not so beautiful. But it is impossible not to recognize her after so many years. Georgian actress Dodo Chogovadze is already over sixty. But until now, millions of viewers remember her precisely for that role.
During the filming of Dodo was only 14 years old. And she met her fifteenth birthday on the set.
Now she lives in Tbilisi, in an old house with her daughter and cocker spaniel. She is happy with her life, although she fails to show off - her salary is small. Chogovadze is a professor of dance at Tbilisi Theater University. Plus - it also gives private lessons. She is sorry that a big movie for her lives only in her dreams. But recalling his first role, the Dodo seemed to be transported in those years and for a moment becomes all the same sweet, graceful, surprisingly immediate Budur.
First cinema kiss
In life - Dodo, and in the movie - Princess Budur, a film about which more than half a century has been watched by millions of viewers, she studied at a choreographic school, where assistant directors from the Tbilisi film studio came - they were looking for girls for children. So one day they noticed her, having invited to star in the film. The debut of the Dodo took place when she was ten years old, but it was the role of Budur that made her famous throughout the Soviet Union, so it is believed that this is her first movie role.
After that, she and her mother came to Moscow to test with Rostotsky himself. Samples were successful, but the actress was too young to “prevent”, and the future film involved many love scenes. Therefore, when an invitation came to Boris Rytsarev for a role in the fairy tale “Aladdin's Magic Lamp”, she and her mother decided to add age and said that the girl was 15 years old.
No super-romantic scenes were planned in the tale. There were only meaningful looks and one very innocent kiss. Rytsarev tried to teach a novice actress how to close her eyes, how to understand her head and reach out to her partner. She all laughed. We settled on the fact that Princess Budur, photo which fell into many Soviet magazines, just reach for Aladdin, they will close with a veil and ... run away.
16 or still 15?
And on her fifteenth birthday, she confessed herself. The whole crew gathered to congratulate her on coming of age, solemnly celebrating the holiday. There was a magnificent cake on the table, the girl was presented with many gifts - shoes, cosmetics ... And everyone read toasts in honor of her 16th birthday. The ambassador of one of the toasts, Dodo burst into tears and ran away from the table. Then Otra Koberidze caught up with her, who played in the film of her father - the Sultan. He began to question her, and the girl confessed to deceit, causing a loud laugh from the crew. She was not scolded, only admired her talent, responsibility and efficiency.
Oriental tales
If we recall the tale of King Shahramat, his son Kamar-az-Zaman and Princess Budur, then everything was a little different. This story is one of the collection of Arabian tales.
The king, when he was in old age, had a son, Kamar-az-Zaman. A few years later, his father decided to marry him, but the young man, fearing the treachery of women, refuses. Father closes his son in the fortress. And there lives a genie, in love with the royal son. One day, talking with a familiar genie, she learns about the beautiful Budur, with whom he is in love.
Speaking of their loved ones, the genies quarreled and decided to lay next to the sleeping royal son and Princess Budur in order to compare their beauty. Waking up, Kamar-az-Zaman saw a stranger and fell in love. He removes the ring from the girl’s finger and, putting it on his finger, falls asleep again. Following the princess wakes up. She fails to wake the young man, so she also puts his ring on her finger. So Kamar-az-Zaman and Princess Budur as if they promised to love each other always.
The genies put up and send Budur home. And the tsar’s son, waking up and not having discovered the object of his tender feelings, falls ill with love.
In turn, Princess Budur, not seeing the young man, goes crazy. None of the doctors brought by her father can cure her.
So fly three years. The princess’s brother decides to help her and goes in search of a young man. He finds him, thanks to which the prince recovers.
Having deceived the king, who does not want to let go of his beloved son, they come to Budur. The girl, seeing her lover, is also recovering.
A beautiful wedding took place. Once a young husband saw Budur hiding a stone on which some inscriptions were carved. He took the stone in his hands to better examine it, but a bird passing by grabbed the stone. Trying to recover the loss, the prince finds himself in an unfamiliar city, a ship from which floats to his homeland only once a year.
And during this time he decided to help the gardener.
Budur, waking up in the morning, saw that there was no husband and no stone, and decided that the prince had gone, taking the stone. She changes into her husband’s clothes and leaves the city.
Travel Budur
On the road, Budur stops to rest in the Ebony city, where King Armanus rules. He invites the guest to his place. He liked the dressed princess and the king decided to marry his daughter to a stranger.
Budur agrees and after the wedding, confessing to the local princess, begins to rule the city.
Meanwhile, Kamar al-Zaman finds this stone. The gardener informs him that a ship is coming soon and the prince can sail home. He transfers his things to the ship, among which are the sparrow olives, and puts a stone in them. But suddenly the gardener is seriously ill. The prince remains to help him. But all to no avail. And the ship sailed without him.
But it all ends well. Budur, wanting to buy back "ownerless" olives, finds a stone in them and sends a ship for his husband. Having told the truth to Armantus, she surrenders to his mercy. And he, having thought, gives his daughter in marriage to Kamar-az-Zaman. Now it is he who becomes the king of this city.
