He was served a new portion of the same dish. But he again refused him, repeating the same thing. Then, in irritation, Krum ordered the potatoes to be sliced ​​into the thinnest slices, fried and served to this annoyed client. To his surprise, Vanderbilt this time not only did not refuse the dish, but also praised him. Then George Crum realized that he just might have discovered a new dish that could become popular. Seven years later, he had his own restaurant, where on each table there were baskets with this dish. He called this dish "Saratoga chips." Since then, they have become increasingly popular - first in the hometown of an outstanding culinary specialist, George Krum, soon throughout the United States, and then in other countries. They first appeared in the USSR in 1963 under the name "Moscow Potato Crisp Sliced." Today you can buy chips at any supermarket - any manufacturer and with any taste.

In addition, they will cost less than store ones, and will also not contain preservatives, flavor enhancers, transisomers of fatty acids and other substances that are not healthy and can even cause serious harm. Making homemade chips is very simple. So, the simplest recipe. To make home-made chips, you will need potatoes to be cut into thin slices and vegetable oil. Put the resulting slices in a bowl. Add a spoonful of oil there and mix gently so that the oil envelops it and partially absorbs it. Then cover the bottom of the pan with foil and grease with a small layer of oil. Put chopped potatoes on a baking sheet in one layer. Place in the oven, hold there for 15-20 minutes at a temperature of 200 degrees. Cut them as thin as possible. You can circles or slices, if the fruit is already very large. Take 100 g of sugar and dilute in soda. With this mixture, pour the chopped apples and leave them for about fifteen minutes, so that they are saturated. Turn on the oven (the temperature should reach 110 degrees) and cover the pan with special baking paper so that the slices do not stick to the surface of the pan. If the resulting circles are thin, then they should be baked for exactly an hour. If they are thicker, then they should be left in the oven for 90 minutes. Observe the cooking process. When the slices on one side turn light brown, turn them over; sometimes you need to turn over twice or more.
