Shrimp in batter: Malaysian appetizer

Oddly enough, this appetizer is very popular in Malaysia, but not for beer, but ... for tea. The central component, of course, is shrimp, and everything else can vary, whoever likes what. So, shrimp in batter, a recipe from Malaysia!

For 2-3 servings of “pancakes” with shrimp you will need:

  • one glass of flour
  • half a glass of water
  • freshly frozen shrimp - 100g
  • canned corn - 50g
  • bunch of green onions
  • one chili pepper
  • half a tablespoon of chili paste
  • 50ml of any vegetable oil
  • salt

I make a batter (batter) for this, carefully mix the pasta with flour and water in a bowl of chili with a whisk.

I clean the shrimp, large cut into 2 parts. I chop green onions and chili peppers. I drain the preservative liquid from the corn.

In a separate container I mix chili peppers, onions and corn. Add the prepared shrimp, salt and mix. I pour the batter, mix again.

I put the Wok pan on a strong fire, pour oil - let it warm up. I dip the resulting mixture into a fully warmed oil with a tablespoon and fry for a couple of minutes on each side.

At the same time cook pieces 5-7 maximum, otherwise they may stick together. I dry the “pancakes” on a paper towel from the remaining fat.

King prawns in batter

King prawns in batter, the recipe is also not complicated, it takes about half an hour to prepare almost a kilogram of shrimp.

I take:

  • 900g king prawns
  • egg
  • 40g flour
  • 200ml soy sauce
  • water

I defrost shrimps - if needed quickly, then under cold water, but it is better to defrost them in a natural way. Separate the head, remove the shell, and leave the tails. I put it in a bowl, pour in soy sauce. Let them marinate.

But for now I’ll make a batter. I mix flour, water, egg and salt to the consistency of a semi-liquid sour cream.

Pour breadcrumbs onto a separate plate. I take the shrimp by the tail, dip it into the batter, put in breadcrumbs and put it in the pan with any vegetable oil preheated.

I usually serve with sauce - for this I melt 2 cream cheese in 200 ml of cream, if desired - add crushed garlic, a couple of cloves. I spread the king prawns in batter in a ring on a dish, and in the center I put a small salad bowl with sauce. Bon appetite!
