To star in a regular television series - does the eminent Hollywood actor agree to this? “True Detective” is a project of the HBO channel, which was clearly supported by a solid budget, otherwise the producers would never have been able to attract such superstars as M. McConaughey and C. Farrell to the main roles. So what is this movie about?
The creators of the series
The creator of "True Detective" is novelist Nick Pizzolatto.
Nick grew up in a provincial town in Louisiana. Then he graduated from the university and became keenly interested in literature. His first book, entitled Galveston, was bought by a small publisher, and AMC even expressed a desire to film the story by suggesting Nick adapt his novel to the script of the film.
Pizzolatto liked working as a screenwriter, so he immediately started writing his second screenplay. A fascinating story about two neo-noir detective friends was bought by HBO, and Nick was appointed executive producer of the upcoming film. The script was already ready, only a suitable actor was required for the main role.
The real detective performed by McConaughey seemed convincing to the producers, and Matthew himself agreed to participate in the filming. However, he did not want to play in the sequel: apparently, for him, this story seemed already exhausted.
Short story
The series “True Detective” is a story about two bosom police friends who have been serving in law enforcement agencies for many years and are investigating the most brutal murders.
The action takes place in
Louisiana. In the 95th, detectives Kart and Cole faced an unusually brutal murder of a young woman in the forest. Later it turns out that she is a prostitute and anyone could do it. However, everything indicates that the killing was ritual. Detectives begin to "dig" in this direction and are convinced that the deceased prostitute is not the only victim of a dangerous maniac. They find the “culprit” and put him in jail.
It is necessary to return to this investigation after 17 years. Two aged detectives begin to be interrogated, since the exact same murder occurred in the district, which means that the unbalanced killer is still at large. Kart and Cole will have to forget the old grievances in order to unite and correct the mistakes made in the investigation.
This is the brief plot of the first season. But there is also a second season, where events develop in a completely different scenario.
The main actor is a real detective performed by McConaughey
McConaughey began his career with comedies and romantic melodramas. A little later, they began to trust him in roles in dramas, thrillers and action films. But in the series, Matthew McConaughey did not star in even the most difficult times.
The first work for a Hollywood actor in the movie was the picture "Stoned and Confused," where he appeared in the company of Ben Affleck and Mila Jovovich. Then there were such well-known projects as “Wedding Planner”, “How to Get Rid of a Guy in 10 Days”, “Sahara” and others. For shooting at the Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew received his first Oscar. Apparently, he really liked the script of Nick Pizzolatto, since he made an exception and took part in a television film.
Matthew McConaughey in the project "True Detective" got a difficult role. His character - Rustin Cole - had a very eventful life. At first, he worked undercover for a long time and every day could be the last for him. Then Cole had a daughter, he switched to a more relaxed job, but his daughter died, and Rastin himself became an alcoholic. He, of course, managed to pull himself together, but all that remained of his life was his work as a detective in the slaughter department.

Woody Harrelson in the series from the HBO channel played the detective Martin Hart. His hero did not encounter such vicissitudes of life as the hero of McConaughey, but he is going through hard times in terms of family relationships. Throughout the film, the main characters fight not only with a ritual maniac, but also with their own demons.
Woody Harrelson is no less popular in the US than McConaughey. True, he is more likely to act in TV shows: for example, at the beginning of his career, he participated in the projects “Merry Company”, “Dear John” and “Spin City”. The artist became popular after playing a major role in Oliver Stone's project “People vs. Larry Flynt”. Then even Woody was nominated for an Academy Award.
Then Harrelson starred in such well-known films as The Trans-Siberian Express, in the Oscar-winning thriller The Old Men Don't Have a Place, and in the comedy Surfer.
