Literary analysis. “Sparrow” (Turgenev): love is stronger than death

The author of the novels "First Love", "Spring Water", the novels "The Noble Nest", "The Eve" is primarily a singer of love and an admirer of nature, which he associates with the universe. In the life of both Turgenev himself and his central literary characters, fiery feelings occupy not only a priority, but also a truly fundamental place. This will show a small work and its analysis - “Sparrow”. Turgenev portrayed in him one of the faces of love.

The plot of the poem "Sparrow"

The man returns home from the hunt. He is already walking along the alley of the garden. The dog, as befits a gundog, runs ahead - it always and everywhere looks for prey. Suddenly (thanks to this adverb, the reader pays attention that something will begin now) she changed her pace and slowly began to sneak up on something. It turns out that not far from the avenue the yellow-billed baby bird sat motionless.

He was completely helpless, only mumbled a little sprouted wings. Sympathy for the sparrow paralyzes the hunter - this is what the work and its analysis show to readers (“Sparrow”). Turgenev wanted to demonstrate that a person is much slower than animals, reacts to what is happening. A man just looks and does nothing.

And the dog, slowly rearranging its paws, approaches the unfortunate one. Suddenly (this dialect changes dramatically the whole situation again) from a tree in front of the dog’s face with a huge toothy grinning mouth, it bravely falls, spreading all the feathers of sparrows.

The writer uses the participial revolution in this, as if accelerating the actions of the defender. The sparrow is miserable, helpless, squeaks hoarsely, but jumps toward the dog, protecting the chick, covering it with itself. In this part of the work, the author uses antonyms, contrasting the enormity of the dog compared to the small body of a bird.

The feathered creature decided to become a victim of this beast, although it is terribly scared. All verbs used for this accurately and colorfully convey the actions that helped in this desperate situation. The dog was dumbfounded, stopped and even moved back. One should never lose hope of salvation - this is the conclusion made by readers, after analyzing the work in parts, making its analysis (“Sparrow”). Turgenev showed how powerful the natural instinct of protecting his cub is.

Denouement

The hunter recalled the dog, which was taken aback, and himself reverently before the behavior of the old sparrow left. He wandered between the trees, thought about what had happened and involuntarily did an analysis. Sparrow ... Turgenev exalted the little bird, and left the hunter puzzled. And the main character of this story, and the author, and the readers all looked at the bird as a hero, worshiping her selfless love.

Art style

This is a lyrical narrative in prose, which consistently describes the whole chain of events. Epithets are widely used in it when describing both the old and the young sparrow. They convey the horror of the action. The dog, which is also instinctively, is vividly drawn. She is completely subordinate to the passion of hunting. It is beyond her power to not follow it. Only the owner can stop the animal, but not game in any way.

And here on her way stood a little sparrow, all trembling with fear, but ready to protect the chick. This courage, courage stopped the dog, who had seen a lot. The emotionality and imagery of Turgenev show us in all details a seemingly insignificant event. The author rose to the highest generalizations in the work “Sparrow”. Turgenev, whose theme in the poem is connected with love and sacrifice, in other places will call it the sacred flame and feeling, which is a reflection of eternity itself.

Poem in Prose

This work Turgenev wrote in April 1878. At this time, the author was 60 years old and everywhere he was haunted by the ghost of an imminent death. In order to distract from black thoughts, to convince himself of the eternal victory of good over evil, he will create this poem in prose. It is permeated with penetrating lines of love, on which everything holds and moves. It is on this positive note that Turgenev's Sparrow ends, a summary of which has been outlined.
