Project concept

communism group
When the “Communism” group was created, its founders proceeded from the fact that one cannot express the playfulness, nightmare and absurdity of the surrounding reality with nothing but an appeal to reality itself, its manifestations and objects. The musicians admitted that they rather developed a project for themselves than for the audience.

Studio period

The Communism group was created by members of the Civil Defense team Oleg Sudakov and Yegor Letov. The musicians recalled that the basis for the project was one song. It all started with the fact that during the concert "Defense" in 1988, Letov and Sudakov performed the song "Joyfully in my soul." Soon they decided to record this Soviet song in the studio. Later, the idea arose to use their own instrumentals, as well as the tune “Popcorn”. On this basis, it was planned to perform songs based on verses of various Soviet poets, which were created during the Khrushchev period. As a result of these experiments, the first album of the new group appeared. The second record in spirit was close to the debut. Since 1989, the group began to record albums, which included songs of their own composition. Experimental work has also been created that can be attributed to the spoken word genre. In addition, the creative activity of the project touched other musical directions. Poetry was often borrowed. Music was also often taken from other authors. The founders of the project created and then recorded the objects of "communism-art." For this, they used, in addition to their own developments, the works of other authors. In particular, Robert Rozhdestvensky, Lev Oshanin, Suleiman Stalsky, Evgeny Yevtushenko, Franz Kafka, Vasily Rozanov, Isikawa Takuboku, Daniil Kharms, Sergey Mikhalkov, Leonid Andreev.
