POCNS - what if not a sentence?

PPCNS - what is it? So doctors call perinatal damage to the central nervous system. We are talking about diseases of the newborn that appeared in the perinatal period (from 28 weeks of pregnancy to 7 days of life) of its development.

PPCNS what is it

There are many reasons that can lead to such a pathology, but scientists have conveniently divided them into only four groups. The diagnosis of "PCNS" is made in the following cases.

Hypoxia

This is the most common cause of PCOS. What does it mean? Sometimes the fetus inside the maternal womb lacks oxygen. The causes of its deficiency can be an infectious or chronic disease of a pregnant woman, multiple pregnancy, hypertension, low or high water. Hypoxia, developing during the bearing of a child, is called "intrauterine". An acute condition can occur at the time of delivery. The cause may be an early detachment of the placenta, a very slow delivery, when the head of the newborn stays in the mother’s pelvis for a long time, heavy bleeding caused by various reasons. As a rule, the consequences of acute or intrauterine hypoxia are:

  • asphyxia of the baby;
  • increased vascular permeability of the child;
  • slow development of brain capillaries;
  • impaired breathing and blood circulation.

Injuries

Sometimes improper actions of personnel during difficult births can lead to the fact that the tissues of the central nervous system or brain of a newborn can be mechanically damaged. This also leads to PCNS. This means that with improper presentation, too much weight of the fetus, during rapid delivery and a “cosmetic” cesarean section, the risk of receiving PCNS increases.

Metabolic disorders

Metabolic disorders in the child’s body during the perinatal and neonatal periods can also cause PCNS. That this happens quite rarely, confirms medical statistics. If a woman during pregnancy fulfills all the doctor’s prescriptions, the possibility of developing PCA is reduced to almost zero. The risk group includes newborns that appear in dysfunctional families. Perhaps the birth of children with alcohol or nicotine syndromes, drug or drug dependence.

Infections

Viruses most often provoke the development of PCNS. What does it mean? An infectious disease transmitted by a mother can damage the health of the fetus.

Symptoms of PCOS

PPCNS treatment

The sequence of symptoms and the rate of their development depend on the severity of the lesion. In any case, the newborn can notice:

  • change in muscle tone;
  • hand tremor, chin;
  • rarely stool disorders, regurgitation;
  • in severe form, convulsive seizures, respiratory and circulatory disorders can occur.

PPCNS. Treatment, diagnostics

The first diagnostician should be a neuropathologist who regularly observes the child. In the event of symptoms of PCOS, he may suggest a series of examinations to help establish the diagnosis and severity of the lesion. Be sure to undergo a CT scan, MRI, if necessary, x-ray of the skull and other specific studies. The course of treatment also depends on the severity of the disease. Usually prescribed anticonvulsant, decongestant (with cerebral edema) drugs, as well as drugs that improve the condition of blood vessels and metabolism of nerve fibers.
