Despite the achievements of modern medicine, including the creation of high-precision diagnostic equipment and effective medications, there are diseases that can deliver a person a lot of unpleasant minutes. Such diseases are fungal diseases of the genitals, which can be the target of absolutely any person, regardless of age and gender. At first glance, it may seem that women are more susceptible to fungal infections, but in fact this is not so.
Spores of many fungi are present on the mucous membranes and skin of a person all the time, but they begin to multiply and develop actively when a combination of conditions is especially favorable for them. For example, one of the most common fungal infections is urogenital candidiasis, which is also called thrush. Its causative agent is a yeast-like fungus that accompanies us from the moment of birth. That is why it is not at all necessary to get thrush to have sexual intercourse, just random creation of an optimal environment is enough, which is guaranteed to provoke fungal sexual diseases.
Are men sick more often?
It may seem strange that the stronger sex is more often affected by fungal diseases. Most often this is due to the fact that men are forced to lead an active lifestyle, perform physical work, which provokes the release of sweat. Unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to take a shower regularly, and a humid environment is an excellent place for the development of microorganisms. It must be remembered that visiting bathhouses and saunas, in which it is almost impossible to defeat the fungus due to constantly high humidity, are a frequent place for visitors to become infected - it is important to observe personal hygiene rules and it is wise to use personal protective equipment (slippers, individual towels).
Causes of the disease and transmission
The main reason for the development of the fungus is a banal neglect of the rules of personal hygiene. It is advisable to take a shower in the morning and evening, and if not possible, then at least once a day. It is also very important not to forget to timely clean the bath or shower and wipe the floor in the bathroom with disinfectants. You must have your own personal hygiene items (especially a towel), and in no case borrow them from other people. In addition, a common disease of the body, which is accompanied by a decrease in immunity or the use of antibiotics, is a contributing factor in the multiplication of the fungus.
Another way of transmitting the fungus is through sexual contact, after which fungal diseases of the genitals occur most often. If one of the sexual partners has any signs of a fungal infection (mycosis), then you should immediately consult an experienced dermatovenerologist with your sexual partner - there is a high risk that he has already become infected. It is necessary to undergo treatment together, it is absolutely impossible to delay a trip to the doctor, because fungal genital infections can have very serious consequences.
Signs of the disease and treatment
The most common sign of fungal infection is the presence of itching and discharge, in men a white coating may form on the glans penis. In some cases, fungal diseases of the genital organs are accompanied by the appearance of a rash. The most important thing is to prevent serious damage and, when the first signs of a fungus appear, consult a specialist for advice and an initial examination. If there is a suspicion of a fungal infection, the doctor will prescribe clarifying tests, on the basis of which the means of treating the fungal infection will be prescribed.
Most often, fungal diseases of the genital organs can tend to re-develop over time with a weakening of local or general immunity - this leads to a new lesion of the mucous membranes of the genital organs.
The treatment program in each case should be selected by a qualified doctor - antifungal drugs, vitamins, immunomodulators are prescribed. Any long-term existing fungal infection should force the patient to consult a doctor, because such a painful condition indicates damage to the immune system.
