Arifon Retard

"Arifon retard" has a diuretic, hypotensive effect.

The composition of the drug includes indapamide (active substance), as well as auxiliary components: lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, povidone.

Arifon Retard tablets are biconvex coated with a white film coating.

The active component of the drug is enclosed in a special carrier matrix, providing uniform controlled release into the gastrointestinal tract.

Indapamide is a group of sulfonamide derivatives; its pharmacological properties are similar to those of thiazide diuretics that inhibit the reabsorption of sodium ions of the cortical segment in the nephron loop.

Arifon Retard is indicated for arterial hypertension.

The drug is not prescribed to persons with hypersensitivity to the active substance, other sulfonamide derivatives or any auxiliary component of the drug. Arifon Retard is contraindicated in severe renal failure, hepatic encephalopathy or serious impaired hepatic function, as well as in hypokalemia.

The drug is not recommended for use by persons suffering from lactose intolerance, malabsorption (glucose-galactose), galactosemia.

With special care, Arifon Retard should be used in cases of impaired liver and kidney function, water-electrolyte balance, weakness in patients, or when patients are prescribed combination therapy with antiarrhythmic drugs, as well as diabetes mellitus, hyperparathyroidism.

It is not recommended to use the drug for children under eighteen years of age, due to the lack of clinical data in sufficient quantities.

During pregnancy, as a rule, diuretics should not be prescribed. Similar drugs are not used in the treatment of physiological puffiness in the antenatal period. It should be noted that diuretic drugs can provoke fetoplacental ischemia and lead to disorders in the development of the fetus.

Due to the fact that indapamide has the property of being excreted in milk, Arifon is not recommended during lactation.

According to clinical and laboratory parameters, most adverse events are dose-dependent.

Typical negative effects are:

  • paresthesia, dizziness, fatigue, headaches;
  • anemia (aplastic, hemolytic), leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis;
  • lowering blood pressure, arrhythmia;
  • nausea, pancreatitis, dry mouth, vomiting, constipation;
  • renal failure;
  • impaired hepatic function;
  • increased sensitivity of the skin, often in predisposed to asthmatic and allergic conditions, maculopapular rash, hemorrhagic vasculitis, angioedema, urticaria.

The drug should be taken orally, washed down with liquid, without chewing. The daily dosage is one tablet. Recommended in the morning.

In the treatment of hypertension, an increase in dosage does not enhance the antihypertensive effect, but increases the diuretic effect.

When prescribing a drug to elderly patients, it is necessary to monitor the level of creatinine in accordance with their weight, age and gender. With normal or slightly upset kidney function in patients in old age, it is allowed to prescribe a medication in a dosage of one tablet in 24 hours.

Very high doses of indapamide (up to forty milligrams) do not have toxic effects.

There is no violation of psychomotor reactions under the influence of substances in the composition of Arifon Retard.

Analogs of the drug: Indap, Indiur, Pamid, Arindap, Ionik, Acripamide Retard and others.
