In the article, we will consider what it is - pyelocalicectasis of the left kidney.
The mechanism of expansion of the renal pyelocaliceal system is called pyelocalicectasia. It can be observed both in norm and in pathology. In the first case, the development of the disease occurs as a result of strong urine output and the use of large volumes of fluid. This, in addition, also includes overflow of the bladder.
When observing the pathological condition, it was found out that pyelokalikoectasia develops with hydronephrosis, stones in the ureter and pelvis, and stricture of the ureter. Depending on the larger the expansion of the renal pelvis, the more likely it is that stagnation of urine is possible, which subsequently causes the formation of stones.
Kidney structure
The kidneys are a paired organ having a bean-like shape and located in the space behind the peritoneum on the inner surface of the posterior wall of the peritoneum on both sides of the spinal column. In an adult, the weight of each kidney is approximately 150 grams, its size is approximately similar to a clenched fist. The structure of the human kidney is unique.
It is externally covered with a dense connective tissue capsule that protects its delicate internal structures. The renal artery, from which the lymphatic vessels, the renal vein and the ureter, which starts from the pelvis, it leads the final urine into the bladder, is included in the renal gate. In the kidney tissue, two layers are precisely delimited in a longitudinal section.
Few people know about the structure of the human kidney.
Outer layer
The outer layer of the kidney, that is, the gray-red cortical substance, has a granular appearance, since it is formed by a large number of red microscopic structures - the renal bodies. The brain substance, or the inner layer of the kidney, includes 15-16 pyramids of the kidney, the renal papillae (peaks) of which open into the small cups of the kidneys (large pelvis renal cups). In the cerebral layer of the organ, the inner and outer medulla are secreted. The renal tubule is the renal tubule, and the stroma is the connective thin layer in which the nerves and blood vessels of the kidneys pass. The surfaces of the ureters, pelvis, cups and calyces have contractile elements that help urine move into the bladder. There, it accumulates until it is emptied.
What is pyelocalicectasis of the left kidney?
Causes of pathology
Pyelocalicectasia is essentially a physiological abnormality, can be congenital and acquired. Often this pathology in women develops when the baby is born. This is due to an increase in the uterus, which, in turn, presses on the kidneys and thereby provokes deformation. The development of the disease as a result of urolithiasis is quite common, when the kidney stones are in the cavity of the pelvis, thereby narrowing the channel along which urine leaves.
There are cases when the disease affects two kidneys simultaneously, but this happens very rarely. Pathology is often localized in the pelvis of the left kidney or right. Pyelocalicectasia is not an independent ailment that develops only against the background of other diseases that provoke changes in the body. During the development of the disease, the calyx of the kidney expands. If, in addition to such a process, an expansion of the ureter is still added , we are talking about ureteropyelokalikoektazii.
Pathological varieties
In medicine, several types of pyelokalikoectasia of the kidney are currently distinguished. Pathology, therefore, can be: bilateral and one-sided.
The disease also varies in severity: moderate, complex and mild.
Asymptomatic course
It happens when the pathology proceeds without any symptoms at all. In this case, if there is no ailment running in parallel, it will not be possible to determine the disease. However, this happens very rarely, pyelocalicectasia can often be diagnosed by specific symptoms. First of all, there is a narrowing in the ureter of the gap due to the expansion of the renal pelvis and calyx.
Such processes, in turn, cause difficulties and pain when urinating. In addition, changes in the smell of urine and its color can be observed. Pain can spread beyond the lumbar region. The presence of a combination of symptoms may indicate an inflammation process.
What is it, pyelocalicectasis of the left kidney, is now clear.
Pathology diagnostics
Diagnosis of pyelocalicectasis is not difficult and can occur through the study of the kidneys and other parts of the urinary system. For this purpose, a contrast or ultrasound x-ray is prescribed (excretory pyelo- and urography of the kidneys using a contrast medium, MSCT, etc.).
Urography is an X-ray examination in which several species are distinguished. To examine the kidneys in more detail, they use kidney urography using a contrast agent, and when it is removed from the patient's body, x-rays are taken.
When examined by an ultrasound machine, even the smallest extensions, the reason for their formation and the amount of urine in the residue are clearly defined. Pathology is often diagnosed during pregnancy with a simple routine examination.
Preventive measures
Prevention refers to such events:
- healthy lifestyle;
- proper nutrition is also recommended, the exclusion of junk food, dyes, too spicy and fatty foods, this also applies to the method and time of eating (it is advisable to adhere to the same time);
- periodically need to be examined, while it is especially important to contact a urologist and nephrologist, to pass the necessary tests that they prescribe.
Treatment methods
In order for the patientβs treatment to be as effective as possible, all associated pathologies must be eliminated. When diagnosing urolithiasis, the patient should undergo appropriate treatment, which is also characteristic of other ailments.
In this case, there are several methods of therapy: conservative or radically surgical. The traditional method involves eliminating the origins of the disease. In the case of surgery, the resulting disease is also removed.
When it comes to treatment of the upper parts of the urinary system, doctors prescribe analgesics or antispasmodics to the patient. Depending on how acute the disease, non-narcotic or narcotic drugs are prescribed.
Uroseptics, antibacterial agents, that is, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and agents aimed at improving microcirculation in the kidney tissues are also used for treatment.
Surgical treatment
Regarding the operative methods, it must be said that they are understood as the removal of a kidney altered by a pathological process. If the violation is at an early stage, only the plastic is removed. Surgical intervention can occur either by the open method or by laparoscopic technology.
With the timely elimination of the factor that influenced the development of the disease, medical forecasts are quite positive. If the size is impressive and there is a persistent expansion of the urinary tract, a complete kidney removal is performed. This is due to the fact that at this stage, the body to some extent loses its ability or it becomes partially non-functional.
When kidneys are sore, home treatment can be very effective.
Home treatment
The attending physician will supplement the medicines also with folk remedies - herbal medicine. Herbal preparations not only remove sand from the kidneys and urinary stones from the urinary system, but also treat the chronic concomitant diseases listed above.
Collection example: three parts of rose hips and perforated St. John's wort, four parts of lingonberry leaves and corn stigmas, 54 parts of garden parsley and one part of peppermint.
In a thermos, pour two tablespoons of the collection with boiling water (500 ml) overnight and drink the next day infusion in 3-4 doses twenty minutes before meals.
Thirty days later, you need to take a two-week break and repeat the treatment course. Fees are different, they should be alternated. It is useful to drink cranberry and cranberry fruit drinks at the same time as using herbal infusions.
It is effective to take mineral water with lemon juice and olive oil from urolithiasis. Such treatment can be carried out if there is no gastritis: first swallow a teaspoon of lemon juice and the same amount of olive oil, then drink 150 milliliters of mineral water.
Among other benefits, such a good diuretic also triggers gastrointestinal motility.
