Spastic colitis, better known as irritable bowel syndrome , is a fairly common problem. The disease is accompanied by bloating and abdominal pain, a violation of the formation of feces - all these symptoms are associated with increased activity of the colon.
Spastic colitis and its causes
In fact, the reasons for the development of such a pathology are not fully understood. Nevertheless, in medicine, such a condition is considered a functional disorder, since when examining the body, no other disorders, such as infection, trauma or inflammation, are detected. The disease has a psychosomatic nature and is associated primarily with abnormal functioning of the nervous system.
Nonetheless, spastic bowel colitis has been proven to be the result of genetic inheritance. In addition, it was noted that attacks of the so-called intestinal irritation most often occur against the background of severe stress or nervous exhaustion of the body. Risk factors also include malnutrition, the use of certain drugs, and infectious diseases.
Spastic colitis: symptoms of the disease
In fact, the disease can be accompanied by various symptoms. For example, some patients suffer from acute bouts of diarrhea, while others, on the contrary, have difficulty with bowel movements. There are also people who have diarrhea followed by constipation and vice versa.
Symptoms can also include bloating and the accumulation of a large amount of gas in the intestines. Often patients complain of discomfort and abdominal pain. And, as already mentioned, such attacks occur against the background of malnutrition or strong emotional overstrain.
Treatment of spastic bowel colitis
In fact, the only true method of treatment in this case simply does not exist. Of course, drug therapy will help alleviate the condition of the patient. Doctors prescribe laxatives for constipation. Antispasmodic and analgesic drugs help get rid of the corresponding symptoms. If the attack occurs against a background of nervous strain, patients take mild sedatives.
Unfortunately, all of the above methods can only temporarily relieve discomfort. There is no guarantee that the attack will not happen again in the future. That is why experts recommend avoiding stressful situations and, most importantly, carefully monitor the diet.
To this end, patients are offered to compose so-called nutrition diaries - this is the only way to determine which products aggravate the attack, and which, on the contrary, help to avoid it.
For example, it was noticed that eating fried foods, alcohol, products containing caffeine, as well as some spices and spices often affects the bowels, leads to irritation and discomfort. But fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals rich in fiber, on the contrary, normalize peristalsis and eliminate problems with constipation.
Spastic colitis is not perceived as a serious threat to human health. Nevertheless, such a disorder can bring a lot of difficulties to the patient's life. That is why it is so important to adhere to the principles of proper nutrition and lead a healthy lifestyle, as these are the only effective precautions.
