The drug "Aquadetrim" is produced in Poland and used in medical practice for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes. Experts prescribe it to solve existing problems of the musculoskeletal system or as a warning for the development of rickets and osteoporosis.
Composition and form of release
In accordance with the instructions for use, Aquadetrim is available in drops for oral administration in a volume of 10 or 15 ml in a glass bottle.
The medicine has no color, but has a bright aroma of anise. In 1 ml of the solution contains 30 drops or 15 thousand units of colecalciferol, called vitamin D3.
Active active substance
According to the international drug classification system, colecalciferol belongs to the group of vitamins soluble in oils and alcohol. A feature that distinguishes D3 from most other vitamins is its ability to reproduce in the human body through synthesis. The action of the substance is aimed at regulating the exchange of phosphorus and calcium in order to normalize the human skeleton. The total daily dose of vitamin D required by a person is indicated in the range from 10 to 15 mcg.
Colecalciferol has two main forms of solution: aqueous and oily. The name of the drug containing vitamin D3 depends on its type. The composition of "Aquadetrim" means an aqueous solution, which, in comparison with the oil form, has a greater degree of absorption. Vitamin accumulates in organs and tissues, reaching a maximum concentration within 4 hours after ingestion.
Drug action
The main pathological conditions of bone tissue associated with impaired mineralization appear due to changes in the concentration of phosphorus and calcium in the body. Instructions for use "Aquadetrim" defines the tool as an effective assistant in the treatment and prevention of bone formation disorders associated with a lack of substances from the group of vitamins D. The main causes of the deficiency are:
- Lost amount of ultraviolet light, affecting the formation of vitamin in the body.
- Lack of vitamin D3-fortified foods in the diet.
- The appearance of a newborn before the planned date of birth.
- Disorders associated with the absorption of the vitamin and its transition from the inactive phase to the active.
- Genetic predisposition.
The listed cases of vitamin D3 deficiency require the use of various forms and individual dosages of Aquadetrim in accordance with the doctor's prescription.
Indications for use
The use of the drug is necessary as a substitute for the natural form of vitamin D3 formed in humans when exposed to the sun's rays on the skin and the body as a whole.
According to the instructions for use, Aquadetrim is prescribed for:
- rachitis;
- lack of vitamin D in its natural form;
- a number of bowel diseases;
- osteoporosis;
- violations of mineralization processes in the body;
- malnutrition, including the need to refuse dairy or other products as directed by a doctor;
- the inability to receive ultraviolet light through sun baths;
- low levels of calcium or phosphate in the body;
- alcohol addiction;
- insufficient acquired or congenital production of the hormone parathyrin;
- prevention of rickets in children from birth and female osteoporosis, characteristic of older people.
Application methods
The main function of the drug is to regulate the growth of the bone skeleton in infancy and the correct concentration of minerals in old age. Aquadetrim drops for adults are also used to help in the work of the muscle layer of the heart, normalize blood coagulation, with rickets, osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency and related conditions. For preventive purposes, medication is prescribed with 1 drop. Later, the dosage is calculated based on the time of year, the possible intake of vitamin with food and the individual characteristics of the patient.
Treatment begins with 4 drops, eventually bringing the intake to 6 drops per day. The course of treatment is one and a half months and obliges the doctor and patient to monitor blood counts. If necessary, the drug can be repeated with an interval of 7-10 days. After reaching the necessary indicators, the dosage is reduced to 1-2 drops and continue to use the medicine for prophylactic purposes.
In the postmenopausal period, the medicine is prescribed for preventive purposes and is recommended for use within 2-3 years.
To use drops of "Aquadetrim" before or after meals is a personal matter for everyone. A feature of the intake is the obligatory dilution of the drug with a small amount of water.
Pregnancy and lactation
The daily intake of the drug by pregnant women usually does not exceed two drops. Since there is a risk to the fetus identified during animal studies, women in the position are recommended to use the drug in accordance with the prescribed dosages. Prolonged uncontrolled use of the drug during pregnancy may not affect the baby, up to a delay in the mental development of the fetus. For medicinal purposes, the dosage of "Aquadetrim" is prescribed individually and can vary from 4 to 10 drops.
During lactation, a woman must remember that the drug has the ability to penetrate into breast milk and use drops with caution or stop feeding during treatment.
Childhood
Aquadetrim drops for children are used both in prophylactic and therapeutic doses. From the second month of life to the onset of 2 years, to prevent the development of rickets, the daily children's dose is 1 drop. In the absence of the ability to obtain vitamin D3 naturally, the dosage is increased 2 times.
The amount of drug for treating a small patient is also individual and may significantly differ from the recommended doses for prophylaxis.
Side effects and overdose
Prescribed doses of the drug can not lead to side effects. Health problems begin with a significant overdose of Aquadetrim and lead to hypervitaminosis, accompanied by the following conditions:
- weight loss;
- thirst and dryness of the mucous membranes;
- increase in pressure;
- an increase in the dose of calcium in the blood;
- the formation of stones;
- pains in muscle and joint tissue;
- vomiting or constipation;
- excessive anxiety or depression.
If there are signs of excess vitamin due to the use of the drug, it is recommended to prescribe treatment in accordance with the symptoms of an overdose.
Contraindications
In accordance with the instructions for use, "Aquadetrim" is used with caution with special sensitivity to the active substance and is contraindicated:
- with individual intolerance to the auxiliary components of the drug;
- in case of an increased amount of phosphates and calcium in the blood;
- children up to the fifth week of life;
- in the presence of noncaseating granulomas in any organs and tissues;
- with kidney diseases with the formation of stones;
- with a chronic excess of vitamin D in the body.
Interaction with other medicines
In order to avoid cardiac arrhythmias, it is recommended to use the drug with caution along with drugs that regulate cardiac activity. Antiepileptic drugs reduce reabsorption of colecalciferol. Drinking drops with diuretics can lead to hypercalcemia. Derivatives of barbituric acid, on the contrary, increase the body's need for vitamin D. There is a risk of an overdose of Aquadetrim if drops are used simultaneously with magnesium-containing preparations aimed at normalizing the level of hydrochloric acid and eliminating the increased acidity of the stomach.
Analogs
A composition similar to Aquadetrim and an identical active substance is used in a whole group of drugs: Vigantol, Aquavit D3, Videhol, Vitamin D3 BON.
- Vigantol is produced in Germany in the form of a clear oily solution for oral administration. It is prescribed in the same way as Aquadetrim for adults and children. The active substance makes up for vitamin D3 deficiency and is responsible for regulating the processes of phosphorus and calcium metabolism. The concentration of colecalciferol in the product is slightly larger than the analogue, which can lead to an overdose. The advantage of Vigantol is the absence of odor and a minimum of excipients. Acquisition in a pharmacy is possible only by prescription, and use requires a clear prescription.
- “Aquavit D3” is a medicine manufactured in Ukraine in the form of an aqueous solution. The drug is also used orally in dosages permissible in accordance with the instructions. It differs from Aquadetrim in low price, but acquisition in the Russian Federation is difficult.
- "Videhol" is produced in Russia in the form of 2 forms: oil solution and crystalline powder. The drug is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of vitamin deficiency conditions of substances of group D. In contrast to Aquadetrim, the use for children is not recommended because of a possible overdose. With difficult oral administration, the advantage of the drug is the ability to carry out intramuscular injections.

- "Vitamin D3 BON" is a French product made in the form of a solution for oral use and for intramuscular injection. The pharmacological action is identical to analogues. Compared with Aquadetrim, there is a small probability of developing adverse reactions, as it consists of fewer excipients. Along with Videhol, it can be administered as intramuscular injection.
Complex analogues
The manifestation of vitamin deficiency can be detected in all age categories. If in children of the first years of life, vitamin D deficiency, which can lead to rickets, is not visually noticeable, then in schoolchildren it is accompanied by overwork fatigue, and in adults, insomnia and osteoporosis. In this regard, whole complexes of vitamins are often prescribed. The list of analogues of "Aquadetrim", having several active substances, is diverse and includes preparations with vitamin D3 and:
- omega 3 acids - “Fish oil with vitamin D3”;
- alendronic acid - “Fosavans”, “Ostalon Calcium D”;
- calcium - Complivit Calcium D3, Natecal 3D, Calcium D3 Nycomed;
- vitamin complexes - "Pikovit", "Multitabs", "Vitrum", "Duovit".
Proper nutrition and behavior
To fill the lack of vitamin D in the body, children and adults need to use the following categories of products:
- sea fish, fish oil;
- cheese, cottage cheese, kefir, sour cream;
- oatmeal;
- eggs
- liver of fish, pig, cow, chicken;
- butter and vegetable oil.
In addition, being in the sun, you can get ultraviolet light, which contributes to the synthesis of vitamin D in the body. Adequate walks for 15 minutes will benefit not only children but also adults.
Doctors reviews
Most doctors put into practice vitamin D3 contained in the drug "Aquadetrim." Analogs of the drug are prescribed by specialists with the same frequency as he himself. The decision to use this or that remedy is made taking into account the individual condition of the patient and the severity of the disease.
The peculiarity of prescribing drops to achieve a therapeutic effect is the need for diagnostics before and during treatment. Doctors do not recommend self-medication with Aquadetrim because of a possible overdose or the development of hypervitaminosis in vitamins of group D.
Patient Reviews
The opinion of patients and mothers of babies taking the drug is ambiguous. Firstly, a small bottle of drops is not cheap. Secondly, the system does not dose the medicine well and often instead of 1 drop it pours out immediately 2 or 3. Thirdly, benzyl alcohol is an auxiliary substance, which also does not inspire confidence when used in infants. There is also the possibility of the development of adverse reactions requiring treatment by a doctor for a new appointment.
Of the positive aspects, one can note the aroma of the drug, the effectiveness in the fight against rickets and rickets-like diseases, the effectiveness of the drug used as a preventive measure due to vitamin D deficiency.
Storage conditions
The drug should be stored at temperatures up to 15 ° C. It is recommended to keep the bottle in the refrigerator in a cardboard box. Shelf life of "Aquadetrim" after opening is 6 months.
