short biography

Zorikto was born in 1976 in the family of artists Balzhinima and Rimma Dorzhieva. His homeland is the city of Ulan-Ude. Since childhood, the boy had 2 serious hobbies - paintings and music, but he decided to follow in the footsteps of his parents and chose the profession of a painter. In 1996, Zorikto became a graduate of the School of Culture and Arts in his hometown. After that, he was enrolled as a student in the Department of Painting of the Krasnoyarsk State Art Institute. After graduating with honors in 2002, Dorzhiev completed an internship at the Russian Academy of Arts during 2003-2005, where his leader was the famous Russian painter Anatoly Levitin.

Exhibitions and auctions

Zorikto is considered one of the most promising artists of modern Russia. The first exhibition of the young master’s works took place in 2004 in his native Ulan-Ude. In subsequent years, paintings by Zorikto Dorzhiev were presented at personal expositions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tomsk, Irkutsk, London, Brussels, Strasbourg, Luxembourg, Monaco, New York. The work of a native of Buryatia twice went under the hammer at the world-famous auction Christie's (USA). In 2013, his painting "Nirvana" was sold for 50 thousand dollars, and in 2014 for the graphic work of the master "Legend" was paid 15 thousand dollars. The works of the Buryat artist are stored in private collections in Germany, the USA, Australia and, of course, Russia.

Features of the paintings

The works of Zorikto Dorzhiev are not only paintings. The master creates sculptures, illustrations for books, costumes, video art. But, despite the versatility of talent, for most connoisseurs of art, he remains primarily a talented artist, in whose works the main characters are residents of the vast Buryat steppes. Oriental beauties, warriors, nomads and heroes (“Steppe Story”, “Soldier of Fortune”, “Duel”, “Encounter”, “Contemplator”, “Concubines”, “Sisters”, “Princess”, etc.) invariably remain Dorjiev's favorite plots. d.). The paintings of Zorikto Dorzhiev are made mainly in a grotesque form. The author writes most of the paintings in oil, but in some works he uses acrylic paints and gold- colored foil .

Each of Dorzhiev's paintings is unique in its own way. His “Mona Lisa-Khatun” is an ironic depiction of a mysterious oriental woman in the image of Mona Lisa, and “The Contemplator” is a lone nomad philosopher reflecting on the meaning of life among endless steppes and a blue sky. The plot of Zorikto Dorzhiev’s “Princess’s Dream” takes us back to the time when we enjoyed reading Andersen’s tales. The artist has his own "Little Prince", looking thoughtfully into the distance. Many canvases of the painter are imbued with a deep meaning that makes you think about simple truths. These include “Jewels”, “Doubt”, “First Love”, “Three Generations”, “Expectation”.

Creator's “Imaginary Reality”

At the end of January 2015, a personal exhibition of Zorikto Dorzhiev opened in the Tretyakov Gallery. It was titled "Imaginary Reality." At it, the master presented the works created by him over the past decade. In addition to paintings at the event, one could see the sculptural compositions of Dorzhiev and his costumes, as well as listen to musical works performed by him. The exhibition lasted until the beginning of spring and became the next conquered peak for Zorikto, because not every artist is honored to present their canvases in the Tretyakov Gallery.
