How to take vasoconstrictive drops for the nose to avoid addiction.

It is difficult to find a person who would not use nose drops at least once. Unfortunately, their improper use leads to sad consequences. This is especially true for vasoconstrictor drugs, and it is precisely after them that they rush to the pharmacy when the nose stops breathing. But not everyone knows that from these drugs the nose literally gets into drug addiction, if you use them for more than 5 - 7 days.

All vasoconstrictor preparations for the nose can be attributed to several groups. Drops containing xylometazoline: Galazolin, Ximelin, Rinonorm. Their action lasts about 4 hours. Recently, xylometazoline sprays began to be produced, they are preferable to drops. Preparations containing oxymetazoline: "Nazivin", "Nazol", "Fervex", "Fazin" and others. These are longer-acting drugs, 10 to 12 hours, but such drops for the nose during pregnancy are contraindicated, as well as for children up to a year. Medicines containing naphazoline: "Sanorin" and "Naphthyzine". Of these, "Sanorin" is preferable, since the additional components included in it reduce the risk of addiction and reduce side effects.

It must be remembered that with constant use, vasoconstrictor drops for the nose disrupt the functioning of the nasal mucosa. It becomes thinner, the nutrition of blood vessels deteriorates, which, becoming fragile, are easily damaged by the slightest injuries or with an increase in pressure, nosebleeds can occur. With an overdose, the consequences can be much more unpleasant: cardiac arrhythmia, nausea, headache, even depression. Therefore, no matter how trite it may sound, even a mild runny nose is best treated according to the recommendations of a doctor, not a pharmacist in a pharmacy or acquaintances.

Let's try to offer some tips on how to properly take nasal drops, if there is no way to see a doctor. Do not use one drug: using different drops or sprays during the day, you can at least slightly delay the moment of addiction. During the day, it is easier to endure nasal congestion, you can interrupt with breathing exercises, acupressure, in extreme cases, if you can’t endure any more strength, apply drops that do not last long, 3-4 hours. At night, you can instill with drugs with a longer action, 8 - 12 hours. The basic rule is to delay the instillation moment as long as possible.

The most difficult time, usually, is the first days of the disease. If you do not stop at just digging your nose, but treat the underlying ailment, then the need for drops will disappear after a few days by itself. After three to four days, it is advisable to gradually switch to inhalation or moisturizing the nose with slightly salted water.

The real remedies are moisturizers that have a beneficial effect on the nasal mucosa and facilitate the passage of mucus. They contain useful trace elements and their salts, which normalize the motor activity of the cilia, improve the functioning of the mucosa. They have practically no side effects, as well as addiction. This is especially important in pediatrics. Instead of applying nasal drops for children up to a year old, it is better to use sprays such as Salin, Aqualor and others.

There is a separate group of drugs intended for use in allergic rhinitis. These are combined drugs that reduce swelling of the mucosa and reduce the manifestations of allergies. This group includes, for example, Sanorin-Analergin nasal drops, an expensive but effective Swiss Vibrocil, and of the new ones, the Italian Rinofluimucil spray. The latter drug dilutes thick nasal discharge and is a mild vasoconstrictor.

The treats include the quite affordable and inexpensive Pinosol, which neutralizes many viruses and bacteria and restores the mucous membrane. In fact, there are so many different preparations for the nose that it is very difficult to understand them for an ignorant person. The doctor, taking into account the medical history and already used drugs, will prescribe the most effective means.
