The Lensovet Theater (St. Petersburg) was opened in 1933. His first performance was the production of "Mad Money" based on the play by A.N. Ostrovsky. The troupe was led by a student of V.E. Meyerhold Isaac Kroll. The theater was called "New." Soon, a struggle broke out with the "Meyerhold", I. Kroll, as his student, was dismissed from his post. His place was taken by actor, director and teacher Boris Mikhailovich Sushkevich. He brought his disciples with him. The new leader formed the theater's repertoire competently and with taste. He chose productions that allowed actors to reveal their talents to their full potential.

During the war, the theater. Lensoveta went on a long tour. The troupe worked in the Far East, in the Urals, in Siberia, in the Far North. Artists went to frontier posts, to warships, to the front line and to hospitals.

The troupe returned to the city only in 1945 - after the Victory.

In 1946, Boris Sushkevich died. After him, for a long time, the main directors changed almost every season.

Soon N.P. was appointed to the honorary position. Akimov. He served here for only 5 years, but during this time he managed to do a great job. New actors appeared and the repertoire was updated. Viewers saw the first Soviet musical - "Spring in Moscow" by V. Gusev.

In 1953, the theater received the name of the Leningrad Council.

In 1960, the main director was Igor Petrovich Vladimirov - a student of G.A. Tovstonogov. In a short time he brought the Lensovet Theater out of the creative crisis, updated the troupe. Thanks to him, the Small Stage was opened.

After the death of I. Vladimirov in 1996, his place was taken by Vladislav Borisovich Pazi. It was a man who expanded the creative possibilities of the team. He took unexpected material for his productions. The Russian musical “Vladimirskaya Ploshchad” and even the Broadway hit “Cabaret” were staged at the theater. V. Pazi invited young artists to the troupe - K. Khabensky, M. Porechenkov, A. Zibrov and many others. Theater performances began to participate in prestigious festivals, as well as win awards. Among them was the Golden Mask. The touring map of the theater covers many countries.

In 2006, Vladislav Pazi passed away. He was replaced by Harold Strelkov.

In 2011, Yuri Butusov became the main director.

Building

performance of the Lensovet Theater

Theater named after Lensoveta first settled in the house on Nevsky Prospect. This is a building of a former Dutch church. But soon there was a fire. The room was destroyed. The theater was on the verge of closing. In 1936, the city authorities gave the Leningrad City Council a new building - on Rubinstein Street. Now there is located the children's musical theater "Through the Looking Glass".

During the war years, artists were on a long tour. They returned to Leningrad after the Victory. The theater building was damaged by bombing. Thanks to the city authorities, the Lensovet Theater received the new building. His address is Vladimirsky Prospekt, house number 12. Here the troupe is located to this day.

The theater building is one of the architectural monuments. It was built by the rich merchant Korsakov. Its last owner was Sofia Alekseevna, the heiress of the Korsakov family. Her grandfather was the confessor of Peter I. Sofya Korsakova subsequently married Prince V. Golitsyn, who moved to live in his wife’s mansion, which was then rare. The house was beautiful both outside and inside. It was decorated with rich finishes. The exterior of the mansion has been preserved only partially. Prince Golitsyn was wasteful, and the mansion had to be given for debts. A gambling house was opened in the building.

After the revolution, the mansion passed into the possession of the Commissariat for Culture, which was headed by A.V. Lunacharsky. First, a club was made out of the mansion, and then a revolutionary theater. Performances and amateur concerts took place here. Then the building was given to Youth Theater B.V. Zone. Then it was rebuilt to the needs of the theater. A stage was created and equipped. A large hall appeared.
