In 1983, screenwriter Oliver Stone, director Brian de Palma, and the actors in Scarface are co-creating the iconic film of the eighties, which is still popular. The film is about two Cuban emigrants who arrived in America.
Mariel Harbor port was opened in 1980, and many Cubans rushed to the United States in search of the American dream. Among them, Fidel Castro expelled a huge number of criminal elements from the country. Thus, two friends (belonging to the underworld) ended up in Miami.
Eighties america
The Americans did not need so many killers, thieves, bandits and politically objectionable people, so they are first placed in barracks or in a special camp, without giving any status. In order to get the Green Card, two friends agree to kill advisor Castro, like they were in the camp.
The main character was played by Al Pacino. The actor “Scarface” considers the most successful film in his personal career. At that time he was forty-three years old, but he easily plays a twenty-five year old guy. His friend Manolo Ribera is played by Stephen Bauer. It is also known that John Travolta auditioned for this role .
Having received US citizenship, comrades begin to legally work, as a rule, in eateries and restaurants. But this work did not suit Tony Montana and, deciding to get rich, he and a friend join the criminal world, especially since they were not a curiosity to kill.
As a result, an ambitious Tony achieves his goal, acquires wealth and a beloved woman, but in the end loses everything. There is a place in the film when Tony, having killed the boss who set him up, realizes that now the whole world is in his pocket. But the notorious truth comes to mind: "What is the use, if you gain the whole world, and destroy your soul?"
“The Scarface”: film, actors and roles
Tony's figure is controversial, but certainly attractive. He calmly kills traitors and enemies, but never goes to kill a woman and children. It was this act that caused him to die and take off. In fact, the author shows the nobility of his soul, which is gradually lost due to drugs and money acquired in unrighteous ways.
Tony Montana comes to the point of insulting Elvira (who leaves him without taking anything with her), furiously kills Manolo's best friend, destroys her sister and, drugged with drugs, becomes a victim of the mafia.
Director Palma introduced a tragic personality to the viewer, and this is Tony Montana. The tragedy is that it rushes through life, not noticing that it is degrading, and in the end loses everything.
Film work
The picture was presented in the nomination for Best Actor and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Golden Globe, and in 1984 in a nomination for best directorial work. Not one of the awards received the acclaimed painting "The Scarface."
The film (1983), the actors and their roles were perceived in society ambiguously. Many believed that such a movie could adversely affect the fragile souls of adolescents. One can argue with that. Although Tony and Manolo, Elvira and the rest of the actors are represented as charismatic personalities, no one wants to end their lives like them. The prototype of the protagonist was Al Capone, who really had a scar on his face. Director Brian de Palma claimed that Al Pacino is the best Hollywood actor. “The Scarface”, “The Godfather” are the joint work of two creative personalities.
It is known that while working on the script, Oliver Stone struggled in vain with drug addiction, and when asked whether Al Pacino was sniffing drugs, the actor answered evasively. Michelle Pfeiffer, young and stunning, also shows the vulgarity and emptiness of the world in which Elvira lives. Her heroine, who does not want to work, captivates gangsters with her external data, and therefore passes from hand to hand, like a toy.
But in the last frames of the film, the actress is more than convincing, without any "spectacular scenes." She with one eye shows the inner struggle of a woman. As a result, she suddenly changes her fate. As a result, only Elvira was lucky - she remained safe and sound.
Scarface, film (1983): actors
In 1932, the first film “A Scarface” was shot, but the 1983 remake turned out to be better and more interesting. Almost all the filming took place in Los Angeles, faking it near Miami. The cinema turned out to be bright, dynamic, very realistic. The film has a lot of blood, but it does not cause horror and disgust, rather, the viewer senses the presence of the truth of life, which was embodied by the actors and the main actor. “Scarface” Al Pacino was not in vain considered his best work, although throughout his life he starred in many films.
Everyone remembers his blind colonel in the film “The Smell of a Woman”, Michael Corleone in “The Godfather” and the role of the devil in the film “Devil's Advocate”. But Tony Montana is somewhat reminiscent of Lermontov's Pechorin. Like Gregory, Tony seeks the ideal and does not find it, not realizing that it is necessary to change himself first of all.
In the film, Al Pacino is fully realized as an actor. "Scarface" reflects the drama of emigrants in the United States.
