Laryngeal stenosis in children: warned, then armed

Laryngeal stenosis in children is currently very common. This is a narrowing of the larynx that leads to difficulty breathing and shortness of breath. Stenosis is divided into acute and chronic.

Acute stenosis of the larynx in children develops rapidly, which can cause a threat to the life of the child. A feature of the chronic form is that it develops slowly and gradually. Moreover, this disease does not have any characteristic causes. Often the disease begins as a cold. Then complications may appear in the form of suffocation. The main factors that provoke laryngeal stenosis in children are environmental degradation, the use of food with many artificial additives, and the frequent use of antibiotics.

Remember that stenosis of the larynx, the symptoms of which will be described below, needs urgent elimination. Symptoms are:

  • voice change;
  • "Barking cough";
  • panting with difficulty breathing;
  • restless condition of the patient;
  • blanching of the skin, which can later turn into a blue color.

Stenosis refers to those diseases about which it is very important to have as much information as possible to help your child. So, remember that stenosis of the larynx in children, the treatment of which must be started before the arrival of doctors, can have a bad result. The main thing is not to hesitate and begin to help the child immediately. First of all, you need to create high humidity. For this purpose, you can use wet diapers, sheets, hanging them in the room, also boil water in a pan without a lid. You can think of a variety of ways. The main selection criterion is more steam in the air.

You also need to lower the child’s feet in hot water, sitting the child on his knees to one of his parents or relatives. Remember that the main task of first aid is to prevent swelling of the larynx. When a child wakes up with asthma attacks (often this happens at night from 12.00 to 2.00 in the morning), he begins to cough violently. As a result, blood flow to the larynx increases, which can lead to edema. The kid is nervous, the cough is getting worse. It is necessary to calm him and try to maximize the humidity.

It often happens that in conditions of timely assistance, doctors who arrived at the ambulance no longer observe pronounced symptoms. The attack can be eliminated at home, the main thing is to have enough information and respond quickly.

Remember that, if the need for medication nevertheless arose, laryngeal stenosis in children should first be eliminated by taking antihistamines - tavegil, suprastin, diphenhydramine, fenistil, fencarol and others. Of course, you can give your child a pill, after it is crushed. However, if you can do intramuscular injection, then it is better to do it. The injection will occur much faster, which is very important for this disease.

When the injection begins to act, the child will cough much less, and breathing will be easier. As practice shows, treatment at home can prevent a child from going to hospital (unless, of course, it is carried out correctly).

If your treatment methods do not help you, the most powerful and effective way is to take hormonal drugs (prednisone, hydrocortisone, etc.). The doctor should conduct treatment with these drugs, because he knows both the dosage and the features of the application. But you can also inject the hormone yourself intramuscularly, if you know what to inject and how much (if the child is not the first attack). You should be reassured that there can be no side effects or problems after a single use. After 5-7 minutes, the child should feel relief.

We repeat that stenosis must be eliminated quickly and correctly, then it will not come to taking hormones and hospitalization. Take care of your children and be healthy!
