Sushi is one of the most popular Japanese dishes. As a rule, we buy them ready-made, but practice shows that there is nothing complicated in preparing them yourself. A little free time and desire - and you will succeed. So, let's learn how to cook sushi at home.
Ingredients
The first thing you need to go to the store and buy everything you need. We will need the following sushi products:
- Nori - pressed algae, in which the rest of the ingredients will be wrapped.
- Rice Vinegar If you canβt buy, you can cook it yourself: for this you need to mix sugar (2 tbsp) and salt (1 tsp) with 1/3 cup of ordinary vinegar (3%).
- Fig. Which rice for sushi to choose? You can buy a special one, or you can buy a regular one - round Krasnodar.
- Soy sauce - as a side dish for sushi.
- A mat is a bamboo mat designed to roll up rolls.
- Stuffing - in addition to rice, in the land we will put slightly salted fish (salmon, trout), as well as cucumbers and soft Philadelphia cheese. You, of course, can choose other ingredients.
How to cook sushi at home: step by step instructions
- Let's start with rice. Two glasses are enough for a small family. Pour rice into a bowl and begin to rinse thoroughly. You may need to do this several times to achieve clear water. Then fill the rice with water, let it brew for 20 minutes.
- We put it in a pan, pour two glasses of water (how much rice, so much water), cover, bring to a boil, and then simmer until the water evaporates.
- Remove the rice from the fire, let it brew under a closed lid for several minutes.
- We transfer the finished rice into a plastic or wooden bowl and pour the fill into it. It is prepared as follows: we take two tablespoons of rice vinegar, add the same amount of sugar and a teaspoon of salt to it. Dissolve all the ingredients.
- It is worth noting that dressing is added to the slightly cooled rice. Mix it very gently with a wooden spoon so that it does not stick together.
- Now we will roll the rolls. How to cook sushi so that they turn out beautiful and do not fall apart? A mat will come to the rescue. We put it on the table, previously you can wrap it with cling film for hygiene purposes.
- On the mat, lay out the nori sheet as shown in the photo above. The smooth side of the nori is laid on the mat, its horizontal stripes will be perpendicular to the bamboo sticks.
- We wet our hands in water, take a handful of rice and put it on a nori, leaving a centimeter from the edge of the sheet free.
- Lubricate the wasabi nori and spread the filling at the edge of the sheet, which is closer to us, in an even layer from one side to the other.
- Now we fold the sheet of nori through the mat. We twist, starting from ourselves, in the direction of the free edge, pressing a little on the roll itself. We wet the edge of the nori with water and make sure that one edge overlaps the other and is well fixed.
- We wait some time, then we cut the rolls into portioned slices with a knife dipped in water.
