February 27, 1961 in the family of Konstantin Fedorovich Guryanov and Margarita Vikentyevna, a son George Guryanov was born. George's parents were geologists by profession. The birth of a child took place in a maternity hospital located in the Petrograd district of Leningrad. The father of the future musician died in 1993, and his mother died in 2013.
Childhood
From early childhood, even before entering school, Georgy Guryanov began to study in a music club located in the House of Culture named after Kozitsky. There, the boy learned to play the piano, as well as string instruments: guitar, balalaika, domra.
The future life of the musician was influenced by the work of the British rock band Led Zeppelin, the works of which the child once heard. As the musician himself later stated, it was thanks to these rockers that he began to go to a circle. The teachers, having heard from Georgy the reason why he signed up with them, said that for a start he needed to at least learn how to play the balalaika.
Guryanov, already becoming famous, said: “I learned to play the balalaika, but it was not at all like my favorite band. To this, the teacher told me that you need to play rock music eight hours a day, then I can get the necessary experience. "
Years of study
The boy ended his school life in 1976, he graduated from secondary school No. 363, which was located in Kupchino. A year later, Guryanov graduated from St. Petersburg Art School No. 1, and the following year was enrolled in the Leningrad Art School named after Serov. Studying here failed, so a year later the musician quit training.
Life in the capital, travel, personal life
The late seventies, George Guryanov met in Moscow, where he lived until the beginning of the next decade. During his stay in the capital, together with his friends, he founded the Mayakovsky Friends Club. After that he moved to St. Petersburg, where he spent all the years of his life and work. Before his death, the musician lived on Liteiny Avenue.
George loved to travel. During his life he visited many countries, visited countries such as France, Italy, the United States of America, Holland, Germany, was in Cadaques and London. Of all the cities in which he was fortunate enough to visit, George called London, Madrid and, of course, his native St. Petersburg the most beloved.
George Guryanov, whose personal life did not work out, was never married. The musician and artist did not like to spread on this score. Georgy Guryanov, whose family consisted only of parents, gave all his vitality to art.
Work in the "Cinema"
As a musician and performer, Georgy Guryanov, whose photo is known to most fans of Viktor Tsoi, made an invaluable contribution to the development of the famous group "Cinema".
1982 crossed his fate with Viktor Tsoi. A little later, since 1984, the musician joined the Kino group as a drummer and arranger. At the same time he was on backing vocals. Until the death of Victor, George Guryanov, whose personal life interested all fans of rock, remained in the "Cinema". As you know, after the death of Viktor Tsoi, the group broke up. It was during the period of work with Tsoi that the nickname “Gustav” stuck to Guryanov.
Participation in various musical compositions
1978-1979, Guryanov spent participating in the rock band "Uncle Sam", the founder of which was Sergei Semenov. George played music on her bass. He managed to participate in the punk team. From 1983 to 1984 the musician participated in the "Automatic Satisfactors". Guryanov managed to prove himself in such compositions: “People’s militia”, “Games”. In the first, he helped to record drums, in the second he himself was a drummer.
Eighties, in addition to "Cinema", gave him experience in working with such an ensemble as "New Composers". This duet was one of the first in the Soviet Union to play electronic music. They even tried to carry out a collective project with "Cinema", calling it "Start". In “The Ballet of Three Lovebirds” to the music of the participants - “New Composers” I. Verichev and V. Alakhov - Guryanov in 1984 performed the part.
As a drummer, George appears in the Pop Mechanics group under the direction of Sergey Kurekhin. Here he was also a vocalist. Activities in this group occurred in 1985.
In his drumming, Guryanov, one might say, looked back at foreign bands such as Duran Duran. His play was distinguished from other musicians of that time by originality and style. At the same time, he played standing, not sitting.
Participation in raves
In the late eighties, George Guryanov began to pay special attention and devote sufficient time to such areas as techno and house, is related to club trends and even creates initial “raves” in the Northern capital. George was one of the founders and organizers of the capital raves "Gagarin-party" and "Mobile-party". He also owns the authorship of symbolism on the banners of these initial raves.
Movies
George's career has developed not only in musical creativity, in parallel, he starred in films and music videos. Of the films with his participation, one can note the legendary Assa, Rock, and The End of the Vacations. In them, he played himself. In addition, George starred in several films.
More than once Guryanov was invited to the shooting of the Pirate Television television program, he was even the host of the Spartakus sports project.
In 2010, he played in the film "Needle" Remix, performing the cameo role of a DJ.
Rashid Nugmanov said that he offered Guryanov to play a role in his movie "The Needle". He was intended to be a marijuana collector character riding a trolley. The musician refused this offer.
Painting
As far back as 1979, Georgy Guryanov was in contact with Timur Novikov and joined the so-called New Artists team. From this moment, the musician exhibits his own paintings and assumes direct membership with Novikov in various programs.
Since the end of 1989, George became a member of a group of new academism. Until the end of his life, after that, Guryanov exhibited his works not only in Russia, but also abroad.
In 1990-1991, the musician and part-time artist Guryanov participated in several projects at once, including the First exhibition on the span of the Palace Bridge, "Youth and Beauty in Art", "Academism and Neo-Academism".
After participating in these events, Georgy Guryanov was dubbed “Conscience of the Petersburg Style” among his friends.
All the nineties, George participates in various exhibitions, projects, movements. The main theme of the artist is sport in all its manifestations. Repeatedly, both in the nineties and at the beginning of this century, Guryanov's personal exhibitions were organized and held.
Final years
In 2013, George Guryanov was treated at the Botkin medical institution. The musician was diagnosed with hepatitis C, oncology. A serious illness did not allow Guryanov to continue his work. After discharge from the hospital, he was sent to Germany, underwent a cycle of chemotherapy, but she did not give positive results. After, until his death, he was at home in a serious situation.
July 20, 2013 Georgy Konstantinovich Guryanov died. He was buried in the Smolensk cemetery.
