Nowadays, a huge number of films are created on various topics. Among this variety, it is becoming increasingly difficult to choose the one that you like. Movie info
Reviews for this movie are extremely controversial. One is to his liking, the other is not. This is the work of Martin Scorsese. Five countries took part in the production of the painting: Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Italy. The genre of the film is a crime drama with historical motives. The budget was $ 100 million, but the box office was twice as much. The world premiere took place in the early winter of 2002.
The story of the film
The idea to create a film appeared in the director Scorsese thirty years before its release. This happened after reading the book of the same name by G. Osbury. Since the idea required significant material costs, it had to be postponed. Work on the script lasted almost twenty years, after which it was still possible to begin preparations for the filming of The Gangs of New York. Actors for the roles were selected thoughtfully and carefully. Not all actors immediately agreed to play in the film. For example, Daniel Day-Lewis pondered for a while before accepting the offer, and then he studied the historical facts of the time in which the action took place.
Movie Summary

Events take place in the middle of the 19th century. At that time, the streets of American cities were filled with various criminal gangs that constantly fought for power in their areas. Once in Manhattan, there was a clash between the “indigenous” gang and a gang of immigrants who had recently arrived in New York. As a result of the clash at the hands of the leader of the “indigenous” gang, Bill Cutting, nicknamed “The Butcher,” the immigrant leader Wallon, who was called the “Priest,” died. He was of Irish descent. He had a young son, who was subsequently sent to a penal colony, from where he could only get out after sixteen years. The young man decides to return to the area where he lived in order to avenge the leader of the gang for the death of his father. He soon realizes that this cannot be done quickly and alone, because getting closer to Bill Cutting is not easy. Luckily, Amsterdam is dating his childhood friend named Johnny Cirocco. The guy helps him get closer to the "Butcher", without causing suspicion. Amsterdam now has the opportunity to kill his enemy. He decides to do something more cunning - to kill Cutting in front of his entire gang during the celebration of the next anniversary of the rule of the “indigenous”. Amsterdam is betrayed at the last moment, and his plan fails. After these events, the young man decides to gather all the available Irish groups to challenge the Butcher.

Movie Reviews
Many reviews noted the presence of excessively naturalistic bloody scenes in the movie "Gangs of New York." The actors, however, received good reviews for their excellent acting. They say that because of the large number of bloody scenes, the film was not awarded a single Oscar. Another reason why the film might not have been awarded a prize was the presence of an American idea, which may have contributed to the rejection due to the fact that there was a war in Iraq at that time. Not everyone also liked the over-emphasis on the love story of Jenny Everdeen and Amsterdam.
Still, many viewers liked the movie "Gangs of New York." The actors who took part in the filming of the film were satisfied with the work done.
