The republic pays great attention to the education and preservation of cultural heritage, which, of course, is facilitated by the opening of a new museum in Abakan, located on 28A Pushkina Street.

History of Khakassia

The republic located in the south of Siberia is famous for the beauty of its nature and ancient culture.

The first people appeared on the territory of the Republic of Khakassia in the Paleolithic era. The most ancient camp of people in the region dates back to 40-50 millennia BC. The most famous site of an ancient person is Malaya Syya.

Archaeological excavations are underway in the republic, the most valuable finds of which fall into the new Abakan museum. It is worth noting that the city of Abakan is the capital of the Khakass Republic.

Abakan Museum

The main ethnographic museum of the republic is named after Leonid Romanovich Kyzlasov, a Soviet oriental archaeologist who made a huge contribution to the study of the history and culture of Siberia and Central Asia.

The official history of the museum begins in 1931, when the main fund of historical cultural material values began to form, the number of which reaches 120,000 today. The main collection consists of archeology items, objects of worship, rare books, and coins.

The museum fully justifies the title of the calling card of Khakassia, offering its many visitors a vibrant, large-scale, rich exposition illustrating the natural wealth and cultural heritage of this ancient region. The price of a museum ticket ranges from fifty to five hundred rubles and depends on the visitor belonging to the preferential category and exposition that the guest wants to visit.

Despite the numerous antiquities preserved in the museum fund, its most famous exhibit are cave paintings, stone statues and arrows made by ancient people. Most of the sculptures on display at the museum are unique objects of the fine art of ancient times. They were created at the beginning of the Bronze Age by representatives of the so-called Okunev culture. These ancient people inhabited the Khakass-Minusinsk depression more than 5000 years ago.

It is worth noting that the Abakan Museum of Local Lore has one of the most comprehensive collections of political antiquities in Siberia. The archaeological collection of the museum consists not only of objects of the Stone Age, but also allows the visitor to get acquainted with metal products.

Exposition structure

It is important to remember here that southern Siberia was one of the most developed centers of metallurgy in antiquity. That is why archaeologists regularly find weapons, jewelry, household items in mounds, in parking lots and along roads.

Today, however, the Abakan Museum offers visitors not only a permanent exhibition, but also temporary exhibitions, each of which is dedicated to a specific topic and, as a rule, is associated with the history of the republic and Siberia. Museum researchers and curators gracefully combine objects from the permanent museum fund and modern objects, which allows museum guests to take a fresh look at their culture.
