Glutamic acid stimulates the metabolism of the central nervous system. Normalization of metabolic processes is achieved by changing the functional state of not only the nervous, but also the endocrine system. Glutamic acid takes part in carbohydrate and protein metabolism, prevents a decrease in the redox potential, stimulates oxidation processes, and increases the body's resistance to hypoxia. It has a detoxification property, contributing to the neutralization and elimination of ammonia from the body. Being a neurotransmitter amino acid, it takes part in the synthesis of other amino acids, ATP, acetylcholine, and promotes the transport of potassium ions. Glutamic acid improves the activity of skeletal muscles, has a hepatoprotective effect, inhibits the secretion of the stomach, and helps to normalize the processes of glycolysis in tissues. When taken orally, it shows the ability to penetrate through cell membranes and through the BBB. The brain can use an amino acid as an energy source.
Glutamic acid. Instructions: indications
The substance is prescribed for epilepsy, psychosis (involutional, intoxication, somatogenic), schizophrenia, reactive states accompanied by the phenomena of exhaustion. Indications include hepatic coma, the effects of encephalitis and meningitis.
Glutamic acid (patient reviews indicate this) in combination with antidepressants helps to eliminate depressive states.
Additionally, the substance is used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases, arthritis, fibrosis, gastrointestinal diseases and connective tissue. In toxic neuropathy associated with the use of isonicotinic acid hydrazides in combination with pyridoxine (vitamin B6) and thiamine (vitamin B1), glutamic acid is also prescribed.
Use in pediatrics.
For children, the drug is prescribed for mental retardation, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, polio in the acute and recovery period, as well as the consequences of intracranial trauma during childbirth.
Glutamic acid. Instructions: contraindications
Do not prescribe the drug for hypersensitivity, obesity, violent reactions of a mental nature, increased irritability. The remedy is contraindicated in case of leukopenia, anemia, diseases of the hematopoiesis, an ulcer in the duodenum and stomach, nephrotic syndrome, with renal or liver failure.
Glutamic acid. Instructions: side effects
Prolonged use of the drug can cause cracks in the lips, irritation of the oral mucosa, leukopenia, anemia. The most common side effects include short-term flushing, chills, allergic reactions, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, insomnia, abdominal pain, and irritability.
Glutamic acid. Instruction: special instructions
With progressive myopathy, efficacy has been established with the combined use of the preparations "Glycine" or "Pachicarpine" with glutamic acid.
Throughout the treatment, regular testing of urine and blood (general clinical) is recommended.
If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of glutamic acid and consult a doctor.
After oral administration, in the form of a suspension or powder, rinse your mouth with a weak solution of sodium bicarbonate.
In order to prevent the development of dyspeptic phenomena, the drug is recommended to be taken after or during meals.
In addition to pharmacology, glutamic acid is used in the food industry as an additive (E620), which enhances the taste and aroma in canned food and concentrates.
