One of the best modern visionaries of the Russian Federation Dmitry Mikhailovich Fedorov did not immediately come to his vocation. Generously endowed with talent, Dmitry Fedorov, whose photo is often published by domestic media, took place as an artist, cameraman and, finally, as a director.
Creative career development
Dmitry Fedorov was born in Moscow in the summer of 1972 in a family of artists. His maternal grandfather was the famous painter Mikhail Shvartsman. Surrounded by works and people of art from early childhood, the boy decided to continue the family tradition kept by generations, so after graduation he continued his education at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute at the art and graphic department. He began to build his career in the field of easel painting and graphics. In 1994, following modern trends, Dmitry raised his qualification level and took up television design and computer graphics.

His working career developed rapidly, and soon Fedorov took over as chief artist of the STS television company. Driven by an insatiable craving for an excellent and creative search, in 1998 Dmitry turned his attention to the production of feature films. In 1998, he made his debut in the process of filming the film “The Unknown Friend” as an artist and cameraman. Not stopping there, Fedorov is working on the production of the Leopold Dyuza tape, which subsequently received the main prize at the St. Anna Film Festival. Having tried his hand in a new professional field, Dmitry Fedorov decides to become a director and graduates from the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors. His talent in the learning process has been repeatedly noted by mentors-curators P. Todorovsky and N. Ryazantseva. The aspiring visionary confirms his professional suitability with his thesis “There, Where No Voice Is Heard”.
Since 2002, director Dmitry Fedorov has been producing television series and feature films. For beginners and cinematographers of debutants, he regularly holds free workshops at which he trains students in editing theory.
A special place in the director's track record
In 2006, an experienced director Dmitry Fedorov presented the film “KostyaNika. Summer Time ”, which is an adaptation of the story of Tamara Kryukova under the eloquent title“ Kostya + Nika ”. The picture turned out to be very successful, the story of the first youthful love was shot extremely tenderly, sweetly and reverently. The author of a literary source was delighted with the film interpretation of his work, domestic film critics also praised the director’s skill.
Having gained successful experience in working with Fedorov, in 2014, T. Kryukova with confidence and a light heart entrusted the director with an adaptation of one more of her literary opus - the novel “The Witch”. A talented film playwright Yevgeny Kerov took up the script. According to the scriptwriter and writer, Dmitry Fedorov at the stage of discussing the project listens to all opinions, subtly feeling the intonation of the story and turning words into images.
New masterpiece
The film with the working title “Silent” was released in 2015 as the film “The Witch”, combining two movie genres - a mystical thriller and social drama. The director himself emphasized his increased interest in this project. He argued that he took up the task with interest, embodying an intergenre undertaking. In the Russian box office, the picture received an age limit of 16+, which outraged the director.
According to Fedorov, he does not understand such a tough decision to censor and a hypocritical approach to the content of the film. The director expresses fears that such censorship may lead to results completely opposite to the declared goals of its introduction.
