Runny nose and yellow snot in children

There can be a lot of reasons for your child to have a runny nose. It can be caused even by a regular walk in the winter season or in damp spring weather. After all, even slight hypothermia can cause a cold illness.

In addition, if your baby also loves to scream outdoors in cold weather - this is the first way to hypothermia of the upper respiratory tract, which will lead primarily to a runny nose.

But if you have not been able to protect your child from a cold, accompanied by snot, then you should remember about timely treatment. After all, the most common cold and yellow snot can lead to more serious diseases. The most common is sinusitis, due to which there is inflammation in the maxillary sinuses.

How to protect yourself from a cold?

Initially, you need to pay attention to warm shoes, which will not get wet, and comfortable clothes. It is necessary to monitor during a walk so that the child does not get his feet wet or sweat heavily. And if you come home and find that his legs are wet, then you need to take action as quickly as possible. Namely: steam your feet in hot water, drink milk with honey before bedtime. After such procedures, no runny nose and yellow snot threaten him.

Do not forget to strengthen the immunity of the child with the help of proper nutrition, which includes all the necessary products, namely: vegetables, fruits, fish and meat. The physical load on your child’s body should also be moderate and systematic. And if you suddenly noticed that his immunity is weakened by any characteristic signs, then consult a doctor. Perhaps your child needs a course of vitamins, which the doctor will prescribe for him individually.

During the treatment of colds and other diseases, do not give your child antibiotics unless absolutely necessary and without the knowledge of a doctor. This can suppress his immunity. The same applies to nose drops during a runny nose, not all of them are equally suitable for adults and children. Therefore, in their choice it is better to consult a pediatrician who knows how to properly treat yellow snot in children. It should be remembered that the prolonged use of any vasoconstrictor drops for the nose is not recommended and can be addictive.

And if you notice yellow snot in a child, then washing with salt solution will best help. This procedure is completely safe and will give a quick effect to combat the common cold. In pharmacies, special kits are sold with which your child can even rinse his nasal cavity on his own.

Folk methods

Such methods of treating the common cold are not recommended, since the effect of plant components on the children's body can give an unforeseen reaction, most often in the form of an allergy. Therefore, an appeal to the doctor is simply necessary if your child suffers from a runny nose and a cold.

The safest among folk treatment methods for children are considered inhalations from herbs such as mint, sage, eucalyptus, chamomile, bay leaf. In addition, the procedure “breathing over a pot of potatoes” is an excellent method, but do not forget that in this way hot steam gets on the child’s face and eyes. It is best to use special inhalers that will help prevent steam from getting on the skin.

Instead of an inhaler, take a regular kettle, through the spout of which your child will be able to complete the procedure. In addition, for inhalation with decoctions of herbs, you can use a conventional heating pad, which you just need to fill in with a special solution. Thus, the child will quickly and safely warm the upper respiratory tract and forget what a runny nose and yellow snot are. After carrying out such procedures, you need to lie down for several hours, wrapped in a warm blanket. It is best to do them before bedtime, when the child does not move or talk.
