The highest praise of the cinema master Tarantino (the maestro was moved to tears) was awarded the tape “Sad melody for trumpet” by director Alex de la Iglesia. It costs a very, very expensive. However, the 2013 Witches from Sugarramurdi movie, a smashing cocktail of irony, thrash, road movie, a crime action movie about robbery, with a drop of feminism and obscene humor, is also a fresh creation of the Spaniard, not inferior to it in quality. Dressed up in idiotic ways (which is only a character depicting the Savior himself), apparently, not very experienced robbers are trying to clean the pawnshop. The absurdity of the situation is added by the presence “in practice” of the young son (well, there was no one to leave the boy with at home!) Of one of the participants in the risky operation. And now the police are on the tail, a mini-gang steals a car (along with a taxi driver and a passenger who is “in the wrong place” who is “packed” in the trunk so as not to hear his chatter and screams) and rushes to state border. What they are going to do at the border is not clear, all the more their goal is no more, no less - the capital of France and Disneyland, where the younger gang member wants to get to the horror. On the way, the heroes find themselves in a strange town ... So the film “Witches from Sugarramurdi” begins, and almost all the female faces shown in it are witches, including the boy’s mother Sylvia rushing in pursuit of the fugitives (like a seasoned sorceress on a broomstick) .
The film “Witches from Sugarramurdi” collected the most positive reviews from the public. Largely due to the gothic irrational setting, dashing plot and, of course, the cast. The main male roles were given to the director José and Tony by Hugo Silva (“lit up” in the recent good thriller of Spanish production “The Body”) and cutie Mario Casasu, who suffers from the crowds of fans of the cult dilogy “Three Meters Above Sky Level”. Well, women’s characters possessing a magical gift are generally worthy only of applause (as well as the spouse of one of the gangsters, performed by Makarena Gomez, who joined them). A separate ode deserves the charm of Carolina Bang (charming Eve) and, of course, the ageless charm, which personifies Carmen Maura (devil Grazian). The film “The Witches of Sugarramurdi”, reviews of which are extremely contradictory, was merit by critics of various sizes. Among other things, the wonderful cast has received more than one award. Remarkable and unusual are the special effects that the film “Witches from Sugarramurdi” is rich in. Reviews about them most often mention the walking of one of the participants in the Sabbath on the ceiling in order to fix the chandelier.
On real events
Filmmaking in recent years is not so generous with witch stories. The sisters immediately performed by Bullock and Kidman (“Practical Magic”), the semi-childish but funny “Hocus Pocus”, the thrashing horror of Rob Zombie with sickening aunts (“The Lords of Salem”) immediately come to mind. Still, perhaps, there are references to the telesague about Sabrina and the sisters of “Charmed” and an earlier series, about the retro-American witch’s wife. The work of the Spanish master took a worthy and honorable place at the top of the rating of such works. The plot, by the way, was taken by the Spaniard not at all “from the ceiling”; in Sugarramurdi, it is true that, from time immemorial, those who were suspected of conspiracy with evil spirits were tried. It turns out that the film “Witches from Sugarramurdi” is based almost on real events, the reviews of which critics from different countries leave mostly positive.
