The medicine 'Zodak': instructions for use

"Zodak" is a 2-generation allergy remedy with a pronounced prolonged effect. It differs from first-generation drugs in a longer duration of action and less penetration of the active substance through the blood-brain barrier. Anticholinergic and antiserotonin actions are not pronounced. When used in recommended doses, "Zodak" does not have a sedative effect, manifested in drowsiness. The active substance "Zodak" instruction represents as cetirizine digodrochloride, which is a selective blocker of peripheral H1 receptors. It affects both the very early stage of allergic reactions - histamine-dependent, and the later cell phase. The active substance is half eliminated after 10 hours. Moreover, 70% is excreted by the kidneys unchanged. Its maximum in the body is determined after half an hour or an hour. In this case, the effect of the drug is felt 20 minutes after administration and can last up to 24 hours. It is also noted that eating does not affect the amount of absorption, but the absorption rate of the Zodak from the stomach may decrease. The instruction notes the equal bioavailability of all existing dosage forms of cetirizine: tablets, syrup and drops.

Description of "Zodak":

The tablets are oblong, covered with a white film coating. There is one risk for halving. Available in blister packs of 10 pieces. In a cardboard bundle there can be 1, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10 cell packs.

Drops are a clear solution having a color from clear to light yellow in 20 ml dark glass dropper bottles. 1 bottle in each cardboard pack.

The syrup has the appearance of a light yellow liquid, sometimes transparent, in 100 ml bottles of dark glass. One vial is placed in one cardboard box.

Indications for use "Zodak"

The instruction provides for the prescribed use of a doctor in the following cases:

  • Quincke's edema ;
  • year-round and seasonal allergic rhinitis ;
  • conjunctivitis;
  • hives;
  • hay fever;
  • itchy allergic dermatoses.

As with any drug, there are contraindications . They are common to all forms of medication. This is pregnancy, hypersensitivity to the components of the "Zodak", the period of breastfeeding. The "Zodak" instruction for use of the tablet does not recommend for children under 6 years old, syrup for up to 2 years, and drops for up to 1 year.

Side effects are also not excluded: dyspepsia, dry mouth, skin rash, angioedema, urticaria, itching, drowsiness, headache, fatigue, agitation, migraine, dizziness. But they are quite rare and are transitory in nature.

So how do you use the drug "Zodak"? The instruction provides for use inside, regardless of the meal. The tablets are swallowed whole and washed down with a small amount of ordinary water. Drops are drunk dissolved in water.

Adults can take 20 drops or 1 tablet once every 24 hours. The same applies to children over 12 years old.

Children from 6 years old are recommended the same dose as adults. But you can divide it into 2 doses.

For children from 1 to 6 years, half a measured spoon of syrup, if the drug is in drops, then 5 drops. On the recommendation of a doctor, the dose can be doubled for children from 2 years.

The doctor should adjust the dose in the direction of reduction for the elderly or people with impaired renal or hepatic function.

In case of an overdose of the drug "Zodak", the instruction recommends the following measures: the use of activated carbon, gastric lavage, that is, symptomatic therapy. The signs of an overdose are the following: lethargy, excessive drowsiness, weakness, headache, excessive fatigue, tachycardia, increased irritability, dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation are possible.
